Do you have a Go To shop for gifts?

Me husband has been awesome this past year as he found a one stop shop locally for all of his gifting needs. I’m quite jealous as I’m mostly an online shopper. I kind of miss the old department stores for being able to get the majority of gifts done in one fell swoop.

I thought a list of Go To shops might be a nice idea.

One Hundred Stars (kimonos, bags, dresses, scarves, headbands) https://onehundredstars.co.uk

Sous Chef (food and kitchen wear) www.souschef.co.uk

Well yes, we have a lovely gift shop in our village but it's an independent.

Sorry for the typo - ware not wear

For bits and bobs:

Present Indicative https://www.presentindicative.com

Typo https://cottonon.com/UK/typo/?srsltid=AfmBOoo1AqgtQOop7Ql0XwY8RJCSpDwbHIahkUwEp_vEOuiuazi0sDEM

Søstrene Grene https://sostrenegrene.com/en-gb

Museums and art gallery websites are often great for inspiration too.

I love Present Indicative! The only downside is that I end up coming away with more ideas for me than for the person I'm trying to buy for. I also really like Folksy, it's what Etsy used to be before it became overran with Amazon knock-offs.

This independent in Market Harborough is gorgeous, both in store and online: http://www.inheavenathome.com/

I shop quite a lot through Etsy for gifts too. Nice to be buying from some of the smaller businesses.

For kids my first stop is always: https://thekidshouldseethis.com/giftguide

It's a US-curated site so a lot of the links go to US stores, but they're almost always findable in the UK too.

Brilliant for thoughtful and unusual finds for young 'uns (and playful grown-ups, too, actually!)

PadamPadamPDoom · 03/08/2025 08:05

Mine used to be

The Folio Society

but it has become desperately expensive now. And I’ve learned from MN that books are now considered ‘clutter’ rather than a library - so I’m more circumspect.

Beautifully Illustrated Hardcover Books | Folio Society

Discover The Folio Society. The world's most extensive selection of beautifully illustrated books. The perfect gift. Find out more.

Yes, Etsy is just too difficult to trawl through for handmade gifts now sadly.

Loads on here that would suit my DC!

@leafling thank you for that site. I love it!

leafling · 03/08/2025 08:46

@MulberryPeony @pennypans it's brilliant, isn't it?

Bit dangerous, though – there's loads in there I want for myself, let alone the kiddos in my life! 😂

MulberryPeony · 03/08/2025 09:20

Well the first board game is definitely something I want to play ;)

Local gift shops are always lovely, but if you're shopping online and want thoughtful gifts that can be sent by post - www.sandandsparklegifts.co.uk/

I love Souschef too!
I get garden or camping gifts for DH from Muddy Faces and durable and comfy socks from Corrymoor

@MulberryPeony thank you for the cottonon suggestion. I ordered some things for teen DD and they have just arrived. Really impressed.

British Craft House

Waterstones also has loads of non-book gifts (as well as books!) Waterstones

but for books, i order from my local book shop via Bookshop

Needmorelego · 16/08/2025 14:01

I don't buy from one particular shop because we do wish lists in my family so I buy what someone has on their list - not a random item from a random shop.
Stocking fillers I usually get a lot from Primark (as stocking fillers in my family are things like socks, bubble bath, novelty tree decorations etc) so I suppose you could say Primark is my go to.

Homesense used to be my go-to. The widest range of giftable items in one store which I’ve ever come across. Lots of lovely foodie things as well, in the run up to Xmas. The huge one near me closed at the beginning of the year because their lease ran out and evidently wasn’t cost-effective to renew. 😭 (other branches are still available, but none of them as convenient to me as that one was!)

I use Sports Pursuit for my teen DS’s sport/ casual clothes.

You can get some great bargains and in the 3 years I have been using them I have had no issues. Only thing is that delivery can be a while.

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 17/08/2025 10:20

Oh, remembered after I posted - when I first used Sports pursuit I was bombarded with emails, multiple every day. It annoyed me so much I decided to unsubscribe. When doing so there was an option for fewer emails which I took. Since then I get about 1 email a month. So much better.
