6 year old boy present ideas

Hi everyone,

Apologies for posting early, but I’m due with DC2 in October so trying to get ahead.

DS loves Lego, Star Wars and the Beano (was previously very into trains and Brio) and aside from Lego sets and the Beano annual I’m stumped for present ideas. We don’t do video gaming etc and he had a new bike for his birthday.

Can I ask what you’re getting your 6 year old boys please?

Lego sets are so expensive so we can’t afford too many, and some of them are clearly geared to much older children. All ideas welcome!

How about a marble run?

Forgottenmyphone · 30/07/2025 18:36

Has he tried Knex? He’s about the right age to start on it.
Other ideas:
Botley robot
Hot Wheels
Magformers or Geomag
Scooter
Gears! Gears! Gears! set
Swingball
Bop It

Seconding @Funderthighs suggestion. We have a Hape marble run that gets played with every day. Visitors (regardless of age) love playing with it too so it should get plenty of play in the coming years!

Thank you all! He has a marble run but I’ll look at the other suggestions.

Please bring forth more ideas!

Transformers.

DH buys DS’s Lego second hand. DS understands that he gets better sets that way.

Never too early for Christmas here 🎅

Children’s telescope, science kit(ideally one with a volcano to erupt - always fun!)… Dig kit for gems or bug amber?

Depending on reading level - but a book collection/ series of chapter books?

Hot wheels? Jigsaws? Programming robot toys?

I know some hate colouring, but if not, a colouring book and some nice big pack of felt tips or pencils! He might enjoy a notebook set to write stories etc.

Top trumps and inflatable swords are good stocking fillers too.

Roller skates this year as this is exactly what he's been asking for.

Some other ideas would be:
Hot wheels
Lego set
Play dough
Kinetic sand
Walkie talkies
Crystal growing kit
Lava lamp
Pokémon mega blocks
Magnatiles jungle animal set

If he's into any particular team or a movie, you can get him something with a print of it. Also you can create a poster from a picture of his favorite character (here is how you do that) and that's always a hit with my nephews (7&8 yo)

Include some small fun toys that he'll be able to play with without too much parental assistance if you'll have a newborn plus Christmas dinner to prepare e.g. magnet tiles/building set, simple magic tricks, smart toys (these are brilliant stocking fillers), dress up items, transformers/superhero action figures

Plus one or two bigger things that may need parental involvement e.g. pogo stick, roller skates, remote control plane/car/snitch, hot wheels or scaletrix, a game to play as a family when baby asleep e.g. jenga.

Meccano?
Scalextric?

We buy a lot of Hotwheels sets for two boys around the same age as yours. I won’t lie, it is poor quality crap that regularly fails to work as it should and it takes up a huge amount of room. But, they absolutely do not care and the joy on their faces when they tear the paper and realise it’s a lime green dinosaur that will swallow their toy cars once every 50 attempts is just worth every penny.

We also have Mix Mashers in our house. Various themes (Marvel, Star Wars etc) and they take their arms, heads and legs off to create their own characters.

I’m so sorry, I’ve just seen the date! Please ignore me!

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 11/07/2026 00:07

Is it just Star Wars lego or Star Wars in general?

Personalised Lego figure - there are sites you can build your own figure, I got DH one with a lightsaber.
Remote control droid
You will find lots of age appropriate Star Wars and star wars Lego activity books in the run up to Christmas usually.
3D pen
instant print kids camera and scrap books

If he likes all Star Wars you can look at comic con tickets. We’ve met Jimmy Vee who plays R2D2 in one of the newer movies a few times and the guy who plays Chewbacca is at a lot as well as lots of other actors. Most have some big Star Wars exhibitions with lots of Wookies, droids, Jedi’s and even full size fighter jets. There are lots of kids at these events, it’s not just for adults. When we surprise our DCs with tickets we usually gift it by presenting them with a Funko Pop and autograph Ticketmaster for them to get it signed.

OPPPS also just noticed an old thread!🤦‍♀️
