Says who? The word police?

@Zonder

That is my point.

My snobby in-laws say Happy, as that’s what the Queen used to say. Merry implied alcohol and hi-jinx.

I resolutely now say Merry to them - my own private rebellion 😄

What is your point? That you think everyone should be ignorant to those in their community who celebrate things other than Christmas? Or those who don't celebrate at all? You realise how that makes you sound, right?

I like it when someone wishes me merry Christmas it makes me feel momentarily Dickensian. Happy Christmas only seems appropriate on the day, like happy birthday. Ditto happy new year. For ongoing new year wishes in cards I write have a fab or splendid new year depending on how twattish I’m feeling at the time

It's not. You're asking if we're not allowed to call it Christmas now, which is blatantly not the case. Including other holidays in a general letter that is going out to a large mixed group is not getting rid of Christmas.

Oreyt · 24/12/2024 09:23

It's not racist for them to say Merry Christmas and a Happy Hanukkah / Eid Mubarak Diwali etc

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 24/12/2024 09:23

I like to say Merry Christmas, and do, but it feels like everyone i speak to says “Have a good Christmas” instead. Cultural shift, i suppose.
