What do you serve for Christmas lunch

Need some ideas, we are having a small lunch this year with only 6 of us, including 2 toddlers.

I'm going to be making
Turkey crown
Marmalade glaze gammon
Roast beef

Sides
Roast potatoes
Roast carrots and parsnips
Brussels sprouts
Pigs and blankets
Yorkshire puddings
Cranberry sauce
Beef gravy

It's same as I make every year and would like some inspiration.

Also what pudding you serve afterwards? I'm really unsure of what to serve afterwards

I wouldn't do 3 meats, why not just turkey for Christmas day?

I would add more veg, cauliflower and mashed swede.

Christmas pudding for dessert! Yule log if needed too.

MaltipooMama · 23/12/2024 15:14

Ours is pretty similar! This is what we've bought for Christmas lunch:

Turkey
Gammon
Beef
Maple roasted carrots and parsnips
Green beans and Brussels sprouts
Cauliflower gratin
Pigs in blankets
Stuffing
Dauphinois potatoes
Roast potatoes
Yorkshire puddings

For dessert we're got a giant profiterole stack and a mini brownie wreath from M&S. We'll also have trifle, jelly and ice cream available if we fancy it!

Evening buffet is cheese and crackers board and loads of party food from M&S

I CAN'T WAIT 😋

FlyingUnicornWings · 23/12/2024 15:14

Turkey
Pigs in blankets
Sausage stuffing
Roasties
Yorkshires
Roast honey carrots and parsnips
Sprouts & smoked bacon
Other veggies boiled
Lashinhsgs of gravy
Bread sauce & cranberry sauce

Puds is a Yule log, I always stick my slice in the micro for 30 secs to get it a bit goey then pour an illegal amount of double cream over it.

SausageRoll2020 · 23/12/2024 15:15

3 roast meats for 6 people (2 of whom are tiny) is not a small lunch...
Just pick one, another for boxing day if really needed.

You've got plenty of sides listed, certainly nothing else needed.

I prefer a non-chocolate based pudding as there's so much chocolate around on Christmas day, trifle tends to be a good crowd pleaser across the generations 😋

MaltipooMama · 23/12/2024 15:17

To add - our meal is just for me and my partner and our one year old, and for the turkey we've got four turkey breast parcels wrapped in bacon as neither of us are too keen on turkey. We'll have a load of stuff left over which we'll save for when family come to visit or pop in the freezer!

mumonthehill · 23/12/2024 15:17

Rib of beef, sprouts and chestnuts, gingerbread stuffing, onion stuffing, pigs in blankets, peas, Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, parsnips, bread sauce. Loads of gravy. No pudding but loads of cheese and chocolate

BugsyMaroon · 23/12/2024 15:18

Our pudding is extremely self indulgent. Vanilla ice cream, a hot chocolate sauce DH makes which is basically milk chocolate melted and mixed with golden syrup, mini marshmallows and sprinkles.

We have tried trifles; and christmas pudding; and all sorts of things over the years and at the end of the day we just like an ice cream sundae.

Otherwise I just do a roast chicken. I marinade it in orange juice, cinnamon and honey. Serve with the usual sides. And bread sauce. Always.

afaloren · 23/12/2024 15:20

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 23/12/2024 15:26

This year I'm doing a beef casserole for anyone who wants it
A ham sandwich and a croissant for my niece (that's what she wants)
A christnas dinner trimmings sandwich for my sister (ditto)
A cheese pie for my mum.
My younger son will probably just want a chocolate spread sandwich.

There will also be pastries, baking camembert and bread, pigs in blankets, Yorkshire puddings, some roasted potatoes most in goose fat and some in veg oil (for my mum)
Mini cheesecakes
Mini festive pork pies
Crisps and chocolates.

I've been unwell recently so I'm not feeling up to doing the home baking I normally do so we're all making do.

Everyone will have what they enjoy, which is always the aim. I'm just doing it the lazy way this year. 😃

irregularegular · 23/12/2024 15:30

Not sure why people do three meats, especially if not a huge group. But each to their own and all that..

We have:
Canapes = smoked salmon blinis; fig/mozarella/prosciutto

Turkey, pigs in blankets, sausagemeat stuffing, cranberry sauce, bread sauce (I think, not decided yet if I can be bothered)
Butternut squash stuffing (vegetarian)
Roast potatoes, maple roast parsnips, braised red cabbage with apple.
Creamy carrot and star anise puree, brussels with garlic/lemon/chestnuts, plain peas for fussy kids.

Xmas Pudding
Clementine Cake
Gingerbread icecream

I cook ham for Boxing Day. And a vegetarian wellington. Potato gratin. And whatever is left from Xmas Day. Extra green veg if needed. And a Boxing Day trifle.

That actually sounds pretty complicated!

Crikeyalmighty · 23/12/2024 15:37

A very large cockerel
Sausage meat stuffing
Sprouts with pancetta
Broccoli
Baked carrots
Goose fat roasties
Pigs in blankets
Mini Yorkshires
Bread sauce
Gravy

None of us like parsnips or red cabbage

Profiteroles or Xmas pud and brandy or Cointreau cream

That actually sounds pretty complicated!

I have an overcatering issue. If im cooking for ten i seem to accidentally cook for 30. It never looks much when i write it down yet every year, everyone goes home with bags of leftovers. Last year, my bil supplied his work with cookies for a week after christmas and found a bag of muffins in the back of his freezer at Easter!

I normally spend two or 3 days prepping and baking on the run-up to Christmas. I like to do a lot of different things.

It's become a family tradition to put the things I make on Christmas eve in order of how much wine I'd had by the time I was doing them. 😂. It's a lot of fun.

mathanxiety · 23/12/2024 15:38

Three meats plus sausage rolls?

olderbutwiser · 23/12/2024 15:41

We've never done more than one meat or more than one potato.

Goose this year.

Yorkshire puddings are our only deviation from the norm (and we often have beef anyway).

Christmas pudding for pudding, anyone wanting anything different can cook/bring their own.

Cheeseboard for non-pudding types (and everyone else really)

mathanxiety · 23/12/2024 15:43

We're in the US, and we had a turkey dinner a month ago at Thanksgiving. For Christmas, we're having -
Roast beef
Roast potatoes
Sweet potatoes with pecan praline
Green beans
Roast carrots
Roast parsnips
Brussels sprouts w/ balsamic glaze
Beef gravy

Pumpkin pie
Pecan pie
Tiramisu

We eat in the evening as we have a substantial brunch mid morning.

That is really similar to ours, I have gotten the chocolate pinecones from M&S and a stack of profiteroles lol! Definitely going to do maple glazed carrots and parsnips now too x

We only have Turkey Xmas day rather than different meats. Only thing different from you is we have cauliflower cheese (my kids love it) Brussel sprouts and bacon. Sausage stuffing balls and sage and onion stuffing.

I have bought homemade sticky toffee pudding from the Butchers or dh is making a Pavlova.

Mossstitch · 23/12/2024 16:46

@mathanxiety do you make the pumpkin pie as one of my sons has asked for it🤔 I've got a can of AmerIcan pumpkin puree from ocado but that's as far as I've got and I haven't got a clue😵‍💫

Afraid I've gone the three meat route too with all the usual sides as everyone seems to like different things, giant chicken, piece of turkey breast fillet and a dry cured gammon, which I'll probably marmalade glaze, but always have a cold buffet boxing day so will get used then too.

MaltipooMama · 23/12/2024 16:51

@bumbiddybiddy ahhh the pinecones, I very nearly bought those too 😂 it was a toss up between them and the brownie wreath but they did look amazing.

I'm totally with you on the three meats as well, we always had the three growing up and I've continued to do it, it's what makes Christmas lunch extra special for me as I love the selection. Also, how nice is it to be able to take your pick for delicious sandwiches for the days after 😋 hope you have a wonderful time 🥂 x

Icedlatteplease · 23/12/2024 16:53

There's 4 of us. I'm doing 3 meats. There will be a metric ton of leftovers.

I don't care. DS17 asked for lots of meat and as he was in a mental hospital over Christmas last year he can have want the fuck he wants.

I'm attempting dauphinous potatoes this year. Always have cauliflower cheese.

Enjoy your 3 meats OP!!!

KneesUnder · 23/12/2024 16:55

Really standard-

Turkey
Turkey gravy
Pork and chestnut stuffing
Pigs in blankets
roast potatoes
roast parsnips
peas
carrots
red cabbage
sprouts with pancetta
cranberry sauce
bread sauce

Christmas pud
Amaretto ice cream

Cheese

I make ahead the gravy, stuffing, cabbage, cranberry, bread sauce components (and obv pud and ice cream) so on the day it’s just like cooking a normal roast which I do most Sundays.

OP, do you need 3 different main meats? It’s a lot of work.
