Baked ham recipe

Never done a baked ham before. I have found recipes for Nigellas ham in Coca Cola and a Delia traditional baked and glazed ham. Not sure which I should do. Can anyone advise or do you have a fantastic recipe of your own?

Bung the gammon in slow cooker with some Coke. Low for 8 hours or longer then serve. Simple.

Put ham (make sure its been out of the fridge until its 8-10 degrees internal temp, takes about an hour per kilo) in a roasting bag with a meat thermometer in, put in oven at 100-120 degrees, cook for roughly 1-1.5 hours per kilo until internal temp is 75 degrees. Take out and remove from bag, turn oven up to 250, coat ham with a mix of mustard, brown sugar and egg (cloves optional) and breadcrumbs on top and put back in for about 10 minutes, keeping an eye that the coating doesn't burn.

Traditional Finnish Christmas ham.

As Natsku said, although I don't do mine in a roasting bag. I put mine on a trivet in a roasting tin, add some water to the tin and then cover in foil.

The Finnish way is the best way.

My usual recipe is to weigh it or keep the label with the weight on it, then put the ham in a large pan/stockpot and cover it with cold water. Add a halved onion, carrot, a couple of celery sticks, a halved orange or three halved clementines, a handful of peppercorns, about 10 cloves, a couple of star anise and some cardamom pods. Bring it to the boil and cook for 20 minutes per pound (there are 2.2 pounds to a kilo, or 450 grams to a pound).

Once its done, turn off the heat, drain it or lift the ham out of the water, and heat the oven to 180C. Leave the ham to stand for 15 minutes then cut off any string/elastic and rind, leaving an even layer of fat over the top of the meat. Use a sharp knife to score diamonds into the fat then brush the whole thing with English mustard, and pat on a good layer of brown sugar over the top of that. Push a clove into the 'cross' between each diamond then bake for 30-40 minutes until the glaze is evenly melted and browned. Let it sit and cool occasionally brushing any glaze that runs off back over the top and ends of the ham.

I chuck mine in slow cooker with a tin of Coke ( full sugar is best) and cook long and slow then I cover it with a Lidl glaze and roast it off in oven until glaze goes crunchy. Super easy and no fuss

Nigella cola recipe, it's delicious and we do it every year.

Meanwhile33 · 20/12/2024 19:42

I do this one every year. It’s so good. It smells and tastes of Christmas.

Simmer in Guinness and water, glaze with honey and brown sugar, roast. I don't do it like that for Christmas usually but an Irish housemate used to and it was delicious. I do this if we're having gammon other than at Christmas

Northumberlandlass · 20/12/2024 19:44

We always do Nigella’s in coke. It’s amazing

AnneShirleysNewDress · 20/12/2024 19:46

We do Nigella's ham in coke too. I've tried other recipes but always come back to Nigella's recipe.

BraveMaeve · 20/12/2024 19:47

My favourite is Nigella's ham in cherry coke with a cherry glaze. Very easy and I love it.

SugarCookieMonster · 20/12/2024 20:03

I did Nigella’s coke recipe last year and it was amazing.

herdiegirl · 20/12/2024 20:22

Thanks all. Think I'm going to try the Nigella way. Looking forward to it!
