What the hell do I get DH?

He has every bit of tech he wants/needs, he doesn't have any hobbies, doesn't drink, has more clothes than he knows what to do with, buys books on Amazon for his Kindle...I'm completely stumped. I've got him tickets for a show he wanted to see but beyond that I have no idea. What do you get the 60 year old man who has everything? After 30 years with him I've finally run out of ideas!

Past hits have been
headphones - beats
a ‘naice’ weekend bag and toiletry bag
airtags
a belt
birkenstocks
hooded coat for dog walking
muckboots
theatre tickets
photo book
ticket to ride board game

this year I don’t think will be any hits but I’ve got him a couple of tops, cashmere gloves as he’s forever losing them, Paul smith socks and holiday/hotel slippers.

He’s got a Barbour - but I could totally get on board with pink crocs! He’s colour blind though, so they’d be wasted on him - but I’d tell him they were blue and send him off down the street in them for the neighbours to laugh at him 🫢

Does he have the attachable hood for his Barbour? That could be an idea.

TeeBee · 21/12/2024 02:54

I've got mine a soda stream.

magicalmrmistoffelees · 21/12/2024 03:10

Nothing? Seriously why go scrabbling around to buy something for someone who already has everything he wants and needs in a house groaning with stuff?
My 40 year old DH doesn’t want anything, so I’m not getting him anything.

Clothes suitable for the season when you go to Australia. And/or things to keep him occupied on the flight.

abracadabra1980 · 21/12/2024 04:04

A night away with you. Time out together is a great gift in more ways than one 😊

Subscription to Private Eye

Warm zip in liner for his Barbour.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 21/12/2024 07:04

Where are you going in Australia? Look up one of the destinations and get him something for there, special dinner, upgraded experience eg Sydney opera house tickets, Philip island if in Melbourne.

would he like something like a hot air balloon ride?

lunch or dinner on one of the train experiences

somewhere nice for lunch or a mini break that can take dog with if he’s mad about the dog.

Dh is hard to buy for too.

This year he has

A coat which he showed me he liked yonks ago
A whisky set with all the new releases from 2023 in it
Tom ford aftershave
3 vintage football tops which he can frame and put in his bar
A fur lined trapper hat

Thanks everyone 😊It’s really tough as we/he already has the vast majority of things listed here but I’ve ordered him a book tonight- we’re going to Australia later in the year so have bought him a guide to one of the cities we’re going to. I’ll head to the shops this weekend and get him a pair of wool socks for our dog walks and maybe a jumper as well. I know he’ll be delighted with the concert tickets I’ve got him so anything else is really just to have something to open on the day. First world problems - of that I am very aware.

I think we have the answer as to why your house is 'groaning with stuff' when he already has everything everyone could imagine and you're planning to give him 4 things as well as concert tickets, when the guidebook and the tickets is plenty.

magicalmrmistoffelees · 21/12/2024 09:03

Honestly it baffles me that people agonise over finding something to buy for someone who already has everything they want/need. Why? It’s just spending for spending’s sake.

SirChenjins · 21/12/2024 09:03

It’s groaning with stuff because a family of 5 accumulates a lot of stuff after 30 years.

A pair of socks and a jumper (to replace the one he likes that has holes in it) is fine.

Because we want to. How boring would life be if we never read another book, or went to another concert, or replaced our clothes, or went out for dinner, or drank another bottle of wine etc etc etc.

But as you said in your posts, if he wants/needs those things he buys them for themself anyway, and you just want to get him ‘something to open’. That’s what confuses me. Scrabbling around for things to buy just so an adult, who already has everything they want, has a present to open. The logical answer to ‘what do I buy someone who already has everything they want/need’ is ‘nothing’.
Anyway, you seem to be sorted now so have a lovely Christmas!

SirChenjins · 21/12/2024 09:22

Isn that how presents work though - you buy things for people that you think they’d like? I don’t want to replicate the stuff he already has (socks and holey jumper aside) so I’m looking for inspiration.

Yes, this thread has given me some ideas which is great. Have a lovely Christmas too!

Without wishing to lower the tone, how about a more (ahem) 'personal' present?

AppropriateAdult · 21/12/2024 10:43

Just coming on to say thank you for the thread - I was really struggling to think of a present for DP and have got some great ideas now Flowers

17caterpillars1mouse · 21/12/2024 10:44

If you have tickets for a show already I would just go with consumables

Fancy shower gel
Favourite sweets or chocolate
Socks
Bottle of Christmassy Cordial
Tin of whittards hot chocolate or nice coffee beans etc

Any books like coffee table books he would like that are better to physically own rather than on kindle

SirChenjins · 21/12/2024 14:37

Thanks everyone - and glad it was helpful @AppropriateAdult 😊

Step One underpants

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 21/12/2024 18:27

I've just remembered his favourite ever present. Amazon fire stick. He loves it.

dynamiccactus · 21/12/2024 19:01

For future years - DH and I do a lot of reading on our Kindles but when we see things we might like for Christmas or birthdays, we Do No Buy Online and tell each other.

And then we get the paper versions
