Panic - no gifts for 3 year old DGD

Ahhh so in a list minute change of plans we are going to be seeing DS, DIL and DGD on Monday. Initially we weren't going to be seeing them at all until January but a change of plans means they are actually going to make the trip to see us on Monday.
Issue is we have no gifts at all for DGD right now. DGD is 3 years old.
We have spent around £100-£125 on the other grandchildren and would like to keep it even. Since we weren't going to see her until mid January I was planning to sort her gifts after Christmas to ease the Christmas pressure as we have 6 grandchildren and it's a lot to think about.

DGD loves ballet, it's her favourite thing in the world, all she talks about is going to ballet class, or she is twirling around in the living room. Toy wise she already has a lot of things.

What can we get DGD before Monday, really has to be next day delivery on Amazon or easily available somewhere like Waterstones/Smyths.

I was looking at the story orchestra books but DIL has already bought them.

Any and all ideas appreciated

She's only 3 so don't go crazy with ballet stuff

She will
Appreciate non ballet toys too

Go the toy shop and buy her some dolls, puzzles, maybe some clothess: sparkly tops and skirts

Do not buy a 3 year old baby tickets to a ballet

I do agree ... but it is very cute and I've done it now! I'm sure she can use it more as she gets older and a nice little gift with the jewellery box.

Got the unicorn one for other DGD and I'll pick up something for the boys tomorrow.

Totally depends on the 3 year old. My DD has a set and she adores it.

My 3 year old loves jewellery - she has quite a few necklaces and bracelets and loves them! Hair clips she loves but don’t stay in for long.

Lillixyng · 20/12/2024 20:28

i don’t think you can go wrong with jelly cat. They have a huge range of ballerina stuff plus books

17caterpillars1mouse · 20/12/2024 20:45

Usbourne dress up dolls sticker book. I bet they have a dance based one

OccasionalHope · 20/12/2024 20:49

What a lovely selection. You could save the jewellery for her next birthday,

The Snowman at the Peacock Theatre is lovely for children 2 and up. I've even taken an 18mo and she was transfixed.

Seconding this, we went today and quite a lot of ballet in it!

😂😂😂
Why are they awful?

because an important part about sharing books is dialogic book talk- it isnt just listening to a story. Pictures and discussion are vital

But the parents buying yotos aren’t doing it as a substitute for reading with their children, it’s an addition.

My children read avidly -the eldest got a grumble from their teacher at parents evening for reading too much - , love being read to at bedtime, and when they’re busy doing an activity like painting or jigsaws like to listen to a book on yoto. How is that awful?

MoodEnhancer · 20/12/2024 20:57

Sorry if someone has already posted this as I haven’t read all the suggestions. But this production is really lovely each year: https://www.sadlerswells.com/whats-on/lets-all-dance-nutcracker-24/#book and after the performance the children can have their photos taken with the dancers.

But people have been listening to stories (in that way, rather than with a book) since gramophones and tapes were invented? They don't have to replace story time with books, they can add to it?

You think that children with yotos aren’t spoken to about the stories or read stories by their parents?
You think children with yotos don’t also have the physical books to read along to the story with?

You’re making a lot of wild assumptions

When my older children get home from school they both read to me or my husband, every afternoon.
After the bath, we read a picture book to all three children. We then put the toddler to bed.
When he’s in bed, my husband and I take it in turns to pick a chapter book to read to the older two over the course of the week/ month.
At the moment, I’m reading The Christmas Pig to them.

While they fall asleep, they listen to a story on the Yoto. On weekend mornings, they bring the Yoto down and we all listen to a story while they do colouring/ play with toys and I make breakfast. They listen to music on their yotos.

You’re ridiculous.

Do you know of any that let kids as young as 3 in around London? DS and DIL wanted to take her this year but it's 5 and up only at the Royal Opera House.

try this - https://www.sadlerswells.com/whats-on/english-national-ballet-my-first-ballet-swan-lake/

(presuming London is reachable given mention of ROH)

There are also still some tickets for ENB’s new Nutcracker at the coliseum in January. One of those performances is relaxed and doesn’t have an age limit. It will say which on their website.

My daughter got a ballet bag from my mum years ago and used it for years. Just upgraded her as it wouldn't fit her pointe shoes.

Something like this?

The Lottie ballerina doll is great but there are tons of Lottie dolls if you can't find that one.

PurpleThistle7 · 20/12/2024 22:05

I see you're sorted but just in case - my daughter loved this book and it's age appropriate.

Musical jewellery box with a twirling ballerina? You could put bits and pieces like bracelets, rings and hair bobbles in it from Claire's Accessories. I bought my granddaughter a ballerina themed set: plate, bowl, cup, knife and fork from John Lewis. They still have them but available on Amazon too. Good as new after 6 years. Play dough and cookie cutters are always a winner - some are sets. Waterstones have books with matching toy, e.g. The Very Hungry Caterpillar. You can do it!
