Probably done to death but what would be on your dream cheeseboard/charcuterie board?

I'm pregnant so no soft cheeses or cold meats for me and it's only partner and I this year.

So far I've got:
-Selection of Snowdonia Cheeses (Black Bomber, Red Devil, Beech Wood, Green Thunder, Bouncing Berry)

  • Grapes
  • Branston PickleGrin

Can anyone recommend any chutneys/crackers/other cheeses please!

I can get to an M&S, Aldi, Waitrose, Sainsbury's, Asda - also have Amazon PrimeBlush

Well Stilton is a Christmas classic and I do like a small piece myself. I also like that fig cake thing (it's basically crushed up figs in a dried circular cake). Just Google 'fig cake for cheese'.

AuntieMarys · 20/12/2024 13:03

I love Fine Cheese company crackers

StiggyZardust · 20/12/2024 13:05

I usually do a soft cheese, a hard cheese, a blue cheese and a goat cheese. A variety of crackers, some grapes/figs and a selection of dried fruits if I'm feeling fancy!
I quite like to make them all British cheeses as we have such a brilliant selection. I don't think you need a huge cheese choice.

I'm very vanilla when it comes to cheese. Love a bit of Applewood smoked with crackers and a grape or two.

AnyoneGotATimeMachine · 20/12/2024 13:07

I had a lovely balsamic & fig chutney from one of the supermarkets last year, probably Sainsbury's?

Behindthethymes · 20/12/2024 13:11

I love quince jelly, honey and walnuts on my cheese board. At Christmas I like to include slices of fruit cake and a mature red cheddar.

GettingStuffed · 20/12/2024 13:19

We have enough cheese to supply a high end restaurant. Flavoured cheddar, about 6 different, blue at least 2 but more likely 3. Goats 2 or3 usually one firm one soft and one creamy ditto sheep's cheese. Then there's the unclassified.

I'm not sure what would be on my dream cheese board. I'd probably have to go and test them out. What's on my actual cheese board is German Montagnolo blue, French brie and English coastal bite, Marks quince and pear fruit for cheese and Chutney.
My dream cheese board would have a bunch of fancy, smelly continental cheeses in addition that I'd tried out.

Crackers - Peters Yard sourdough ones are so amazing and addictive

Quince jelly

Figs, grapes, apples

Cheeses: as well as those that have already been mentioned, I'm partial to Port Salut, Comte, and a nutty one like Jarlsberg or Emmental, and if you're feeling flush Daylesford Organic Adlestrop.

YellowGoldie · 20/12/2024 13:46

Yes to Peters yard crackers! Also love a quince jelly and chilli jam

Frangywangywoowah · 20/12/2024 14:40

I used to go OTT, not helped by having access to caterers who'd get me french cheese on their runs over there.

I shamed myself a few years ago when partner offered to pick up the cheese I'd ordered...by now there was only 2 of us and it was £35

This year I bought a delicious cheddar and brie at a Christmas market. I then always have a blue and a goats.

I love Stokes chilli jam and caramelised onion chutney. Selection of crackers and those 'toast' things.

I add celery, grapes and apple.

StiffyByngsDogBartholomewsChristmasBone · 20/12/2024 16:36

We aren't having any this year, first time ever. I usually get loads of French cheeses abd then we force ourselves to eat it, I make various crackers and I just thought "no" this year. I'm keeping the food simple this year.

ive got a Brie we will have baked for supper on Christmas Day abd that's it.

if i were to be having a cheeseboard id have 3-4 cheeses. One hard, one goat, one blue and one "other". Plus those millers toast crackers, lidl sea salt crackers and hovis biscuits for DH. And cheese flapjack. Grapes, membrillo and chilli jam/ onion confit.

oh dear, thinking about it has made me question not having it 🤔

MiddleAgedDread · 20/12/2024 16:39

A strong cheddar
a blue cheese
a smoked cheese
a soft cheese (preferably goats)
grapes and celery
meet doesn’t belong on a cheeseboard IMO! I’ll have my charcuterie for starters and cheese for dessert please

namechanged221 · 20/12/2024 19:03

Honey comb
Apple slices
Camembert

LozzaChops101 · 21/12/2024 23:58

This is my first year in MANY that I haven’t been working in a posh deli/foodie sort of business at Christmas and I’m missing it this week for good cheese access! Not a lot near where I live now.

Last year I had Winslade, Colston Bassett, Graceburn and Lincolnshire Poacher. If I could find some Stichelton I’d have that instead of the Bassett. Red grapes and caramelised onion relish/chutney, and maybe a crab apple
jelly if there’s some left. We don’t do meat though. Another one for Peter’s Yard crackers, and some mini oat cakes!

I’m going to have to go out cheese hunting tomorrow!
