Santa sacks for older kids/into adulthood

Looking in the sales for next year (missed the boat on some nice ones already to be honest).

We’ve had some red velour ones from GLTC since the kids were born but they look a little bit childish. I’ll pass them on to another family next year as they’ve been great! Not expecting the next lot to last quite as long but something I can use for a number of years without them looking dated would be great. I’d like to avoid the hessian type.

Has anyone found some lovely sacks?

Mine have personalised ones from here with matching stockings:

I would still use the kid ones. They may seem childish, but it’s Christmas…!

This is a point. Do your kids want new ones? I was sad when my mum changed mine and my sister’s for something more grown up.

My sons (19 and 16): have been using the same Santa sacks for the past 12 years...... I'm not allowed to change them lol. Got some huge plastic ones from home bargains and they are still going strong!!

Undethetree · 20/12/2024 16:38

Seriously, if ypu are still doing "Santa" for them they can manage with the childish sacks!

I’m a 30yo married mum of three and my mum still puts my Christmas presents in a sack and she does a stocking for me. I’d happily still use my childhood sack too!

MulberryPeony · 20/12/2024 17:28

I will run it by them after Christmas then before I make any changes.

I didn’t have a particular sack as a kid myself so didn’t think of their possible connection to them.

This. And I'm struggling to see how they could look "dated" as well Confused

MulberryPeony · 21/12/2024 09:22

They don’t look ‘dated’. I never said they did. It’s not a fashion thing so I don’t want the next lot to be flash in the pan and for them to look dated in a few years.

I have been suggesting my dc switch to adult decorative stockings from the large home personalised tatty Santa sacks to my youngest who is 14 yo for a year or so. I was suggesting it so I could gage when it is time to move on and would be a little sad to stop using them too. But dd wants to continue using them and thinks it’s not fair that her older siblings got this part of Christmas for longer so we still use them! If I felt it was a real problem for the older teens I would switch theirs and keep dds.

Miloarmadillo2 · 21/12/2024 09:40

My DH still has the stocking his Mum knitted for him when he was two and my teen kids have very strong feelings about which sack is theirs! Check how attached they are before replacing - Christmas traditions are more important than aesthetics.

rewilded · 21/12/2024 09:42

This thread ties in with DC growing up slower. Do 18 year old and 19 year olds need.new santa sacks? Not a dig or a slight - just curious.

MulberryPeony · 21/12/2024 09:52

Don’t worry folks - I will be running it by them before getting rid.

Do you mean why sacks at all @rewilded? My sister does wrapped piles. I like the convenience of wrapping up in a one-er and popping everything in the right sack for ease. I do reusable gift bags for the wider family for ease too. It also means I don’t have to wrap everything if it’s an awkward shape or size.

I think it makes loads of sense to get some more adult sacks if for avoiding wrapping other than maybe tissue paper. I like the sound of this myself. So basically you plan to put that filled gift bag out on Christmas morning rather than they are leaving a sack out for Father Christmas. What is a one-er? Sorry you haven’t had recommendations yet.

Oh no! My presents are still wrapped and then in the sack! We lay all the sacks out on Christmas Eve for my DC mainly but also because it’s a fun tradition. I’ll be sad if/when we stop.

MulberryPeony · 21/12/2024 15:48

One-er = one attempt @Clearingaspace I didn’t realise it wasn’t commonly used so I’ve learned something new!

Presents are presented in the sacks Christmas morning here but we did used to leave out a pillowcase when I was a kid when sacks weren’t a thing.
