Christmas Shopping List

Not sure if this thread exists yet.

My baby has got chicken pox so I haven’t had any brain power left to think about Christmas food (besides the turkey). Need to do a big food shop tomorrow ideally so I can just get last min bits on Tuesday. There are 5 of us Christmas Day but our guests are staying for 4 nights which seems like a lot of meals to plan and snacks to buy!

Can anyone copy and paste or share their Christmas food shopping list? I may need to dispatch DH to get it so I need it to be as comprehensive as possible 😂

If making from scratch, Bread sauce needs:
White bread, butter, milk onions, cloves, white pepper.

Not sure what your menu is, but I’d probably make the surrounding meals as simple as possible (oven pizzas with garlic bread and salad, pasta bake, jacket potatoes with leftover cheeses and meat).

My shopping list is:
General stuff: Milk, butter, bread, salt, pepper, garlic, tin foil, sellotape, parchment paper, foil roasting pan for turkey, loo roll, hand soap, olive oil, washing up liquid/dishwasher tabs, ketchup, mustard, paracetamol, tea, coffee, ice, tonic water (or whatever you drink), lemons.

Charcuterie/cheese board stuff- cheeses, packs of deli meat, olives, nuts, grapes, crackers, cornichons, chutney

Christmas morning breakfast- Eggs, smoked salmon or bacon, bread, croissants, jam.

Christmas lunch (basic- I do extra sides and make most things from scratch but I wouldn’t bother if I had a sick child)-
• Turkey, pigs in blankets, stuffing, carrots, parsnips, onions, brussel sprouts, potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, premade gravy.
• Vanilla ice cream, Christmas pudding/sticky toffee pudding

Snacks- Box of chocolates, crisps, Yule log, mince pies, extra crackers for cheese.

Drinks- Juice, tonic water, gin, wine (red, white, sparkling), mulled wine spices.

Turkey curry ingredients- curry paste, onions, coconut milk, tinned chopped tomatoes, mushrooms, frozen peas, rice.

Pasta bake ingredients- onions, tinned chopped tomatoes, basil, pasta, mozzarella, garlic bread, bags of salad.

I’d also check you’ve got the stuff that you/your child normally eat e.g. fruit, yoghurt, cereal etc.

I hope your baby feels better soon and you get to enjoy Christmas (I’d also add a couple of bottles of calpol to the list, and check you’re not low on any baby stuff. I could live without mince pies but running out of nappies/formula when the shops are closed would be a nightmare!)

What do you need for guests for 4 days?
Breakfast juice.
Tea/coffee
Sugar?
Jam/marmalade, nice bread, butter
Cereal, yoghurt, full fry, bowl of fruit salad, pastries?

Lunches - fixings for salads or sandwiches? Soup? Some sour cream to dollop in the bottom of soup bowls?

Biscuits, mince pies, cake (for afternoon snacking) or more like crisps and nuts?
And when thinking about supper time, the same but maybe cocoa/hot chocolate/horlicks etc? Herbal teas?

Dinners for 3 nights (apart from Christmas itself)...will there be a leftovers night of some sort? Pie, curry, or just reheated in gravy?

And cleaning materials - bin liners for all bins, washing up liquid and dishwasher tabs, spray cleaner, kitchen towels, loo rolls, soap...do you need extra tea towels or cleaning cloths to get visitors involved in helping (or even some rubber gloves?).

I'm not saying you need everything - just trying to get you thinking about reasons you need things and then what works for you.
