Christmas table gifts

Anyone else do Christmas table gifts? We do with a budget of about £8, I'll probably nudge it to a tenner. I have 2 teens and an older man to buy for. Any novel (but not tat!) ideas welcome please.

I tried it once instead of crackers, everyone was WTF. We no longer have either..

Yes we do Christmas table gifts instead of Christmas crackers
I have £10 max but sometimes the gift maybe under fiver. We also do Christmas scratch cards but remember to have a coin for everyone to use.

I like to do a gift that is the same for all and a bit quirky. Have done glass baubles that you can put something in and placed inside a tillandsia. Could probably get that done for 8 pound and it tends to please kids and adults alike. Makes a little “terrarium” bauble for the tree but needn’t be limited to a tree or Christmas decoration.

Card games for the teens. Perhaps UNO flip and Monopoly Deal?

My friends and I go for a festive meal in a restaurant each year and we always do table gifts. We do it with a “naughty and nice” theme and buy two each, one daft and silly and one nice. This year my “naughty” one is a festive loo roll with Christmas jokes on it, and my nice one is a candle from tk maxx. In the past we’ve had novelty baubles, cook books, trivia games (they always go down well!), framed photos etc.

Yes we do!

Something silly and small

Personally I don’t do this as I like a cracker instead and there are so many presents during the day. My in-laws do a book for each person on the table, which I thought was a nice idea.

My mum used to pimp up crackers and put more useful, little things inside. Earrings, bracelet, bottle opener, mini pack of jelly bellies, scrunchie etc.

1 year I got those accessories you take photos with- false moustache, beard etc. A bit of fun for a few pics, but that was it really.

Ive done them for years, usually games of some sort to keep us all at the table a bit longer.
As the kids are now 17 & 19 I've said that this year everybody has to buy one and we'll lucky dip - I'm quite excited/ intrigued to see what they come up with

Pineapplewaves · 20/12/2024 13:44

No - it's bad enough sitting there with your dinner going cold while everyone pulls crackers, scrabbles around to see what thing they got inside, put their hats on and we all go round and read out our jokes! Everyone gets plenty of presents before lunch and we play board games after.

So now we have 1st December boxes, Christmas Eve boxes, stockings, main presents and now table presents. Whatever next.....

Well I think the point is different families have different traditions. The idea isn’t to do everything any more than you’d order the whole menu when you go out to dinner.

We do ours inbetween the main course and desert, so never have to worry about food going cold!
