What food/ meals do you have planned between the 23rd and 28th, I always focus on Christmas Day and Boxing Day and need inspiration for the days around then.

Thanks for this. I’ve had a coeliac test which was negative but I dropped on a locum gp that was previously a gastro surgeon & he said it can be negative but can still be a wheat issue so to try going wheat free. He also said that modern wheat is much more of a problem! So jacket potatoes & salad from January! I won’t bother with gluten free bread!

Enjoy your holiday!

Sorry if my message sounded a bit rude. I’ve just reread it and I don’t think I came across very well.

I genuinely mean enjoy your bread while you still can! Luckily I haven’t got sick of jacket potatoes yet!

Thank you. ☺️

As DP is off for 2 weeks, he wants to be at least 2st heavier by new year 🤣. He does all the cooking and we've planned together (I definitely don't eat like this usually!) Some of the meals the kids don't eat so they have something different. There's a couple still to plan yet! My favourite is the American breakfast feast which will be american pancakes, waffles, chicken, bacon, and all the syrups, toppings etc. Never done that before so I'll be looking for inspiration!

22nd Raclette/Christmas freezer surprise (tree nuggets, potato stars etc)
23rd Ciabattas with whatever filling people want/Christmas shape pasta and sauce (lidl)
24th Takeaway
25th Christmas Dinner!!!
26th Mexican feast (fajhitas, nachoes, cheese sauce, dips)
27th Chinese feast (chicken in cashew nut, spring rolls, chicken skewers, prawn toast, prawn crackers)
28th Lidl big buffet
29th Ciabattas/?
30th Breakfast fry up feast
31st Raclette/pie and mash
1st Christmas dinner (The Second Coming)
2nd American breakfast feast
3rd Make your own pizzas
4th Out

The American breakfast is a great idea!

The American breakfast is a great idea!

I was rather pleased with it when I came up with it! The kids are going to think all their dreams came true! I'll probably do fancy milkshakes too!

Christmas Eve we have a picky buffet with all the fancy bits from the supermarket we wouldn't usually buy.

Christmas Day we are with family so we do our own turkey dinner Boxing Day or the days after with other days having a meal out and a takeaway or 2!
We do 'splash out' a bit with food at Christmas.

However I am now remembering dh's turkey curry last year it was absolute shite but he was so proud!

23rd - seafood paella
24th - hot roast pork baguettes with stuffing and apple sauce, coleslaw, sweet potato fries
25th - Christmas dinner
26th - Boxing Day pie
27th - something vegetable heavy, and not too rich, not sure what yet
28th - possibly eating out
29th - homemade pizza and salad
30th - macaroni cheese or tuna pasta bake with salad
31st - 3 course meal with friends, specific menu will be decided nearer the time
1st - using up whatever is in the fridge if we’re on our own, although we might have visitors, will decide what to cook once that’s confirmed

23rd- normal day
24th- just DD27 and me- we'll have a treat takeaway
26th- leftovers
27th- hosting a dinner party
28th- normal again.

kitchenplans · 17/12/2024 15:46

24th gammon, mac & cheese and veg.
25th turkey dinner with gammon from the night before if required
26/27th leftovers and cold buffet food
28th hosting family buffet - will be hot buffet with pies, quiches, roast pots, pigs in blankets, veg, plus all the usual christmas picky stuff like cheeseboard and pretzels and nuts and crisps and prawns and sweets and vol au vents and salad and turkish delight and breads and sausage rolls and mince pies and dates and nuts etc etc
29th/30th -left over buffet food
31st - hosting a dinner party
1st - being hosted
2nd until it runs out - finishing off buffet foods, leftovers etc (we're pretty good to slice and freeze things so that everything stays good to eat!)

Basically I'm cooking on 24th, 25th, 28th and 31st. The rest of the time it's leftovers and buffet food, hopefully right through til I go back to work on 6th!

Christmas Eve - always seafood of some description. We're having garlic butter scallops this year with fries.

Christmas Day - roast dinner

Boxing Day - always a full English breakfast and a buffet in the evening.

28th December - as it's 3 days after Christmas at that point I make a pie with any leftover meat and a cheese sauce with any bits of Christmas cheese we have lurking.

New Years Eve - a constant supply of oven baked party food.

New Years Day - another Full English breakfast (I only do them twice a year at home and they're both in the same week!) and usually a roast for dinner.

In between that it's existing on cheese and crackers or whatever we have lurking in the cupboards and fridge. I quite fancy an Indian takeaway one night though as something different.

MaltipooMama · 17/12/2024 16:21

I'm going for...

22nd - beef roast (seems silly but I can't not have a beef roast on a Sunday 😂)
23rd - takeaway (fish and chips or something similar!)
24th - curry with my family
25th - BIG Christmas dinner 😃
26th - party food from M&S
27th - not 100% sure yet but something like a bolognaise with salad, garlic bread, doughballs etc
28th - meeting up with family for a buffet

And the rest of the Christmas food will probably be eaten for lunch/snack across the days after Christmas too!

Paperthin · 20/12/2024 13:20

23rd Gammon in coke ( Nigella recipe) cauliflower cheese and wedges
24th Pies mash and veg
25 th Roast lamb ( gammon if any left) plus all the trimmings
26th leftovers buffet/ salads / dips / pork pies etc
27th Fajitas probably or pulled pork

I love the ideas on here thanks for sharing.

Im going to try out making a Homity pie if anyone has a recipe.

Also a couple of people have mentioned Raclette which I’ve only had on holiday but might look about for a raclette machine (?) in the new year.

GettingStuffed · 20/12/2024 13:25

23rd meeting DD for lunch, leftover chilli in the evening.
24th cheese, ham and crisps etc.
Venison sausage casserole.
26th lunch as Christmas eve
Dinner, leftovers

Decafflatteplease · 20/12/2024 22:32

Love a good meal planning thread!

I've got a rough idea...might change though...

Tonight....had spaghetti Bolognese
21st pizza wedges salad
22nd curry rice and naan
23rd pulled pork tacos
24th gammon in the slow cooker with egg and chips
25th the usual Christmas dinner
26th bubble and squeak if course with fried egg, cold cuts and pickled onions.
27th possibly more leftovers. Or the sausages that come in our butchers hamper with mash.

That's as far as I've got! We've got some party food in the freezer so may have that one night. Also I'll make homemade sausage rolls at some point and I've also told the DC I'll do us American style pancakes for brunch one day with sausage and bacon.

31st is Chinese takeaway
1st Jan is always a roast.
