Christmas tree decorations

I love tree decorations. I'm usually a thrifty person but not when it comes to these.

How many do you buy of decorations you love? One or multiple?

I can’t just have one of something on the tree other than the topper. So I get a few of the same decoration, usually about 4 of each so I can spread it out over the tree.

@ZippyLimeSnake

Where do you shop for decorations?

I usually buy in groups of 3.

Mostly from garden centres when we buy our trees each year.

I am an unashamed Christmas tree decoration addict!

I have been collecting decorations since 2005. We were broke the first year & bought bags box set of red & gold baubles of various shapes / styles & sizes & we still use them 19 years later.

They're the sort of base or background for the others & each year i buy a couple of new ones. We've travelled a lot in winter months & I've bought decorations in various countries.

I buy things that have a meaning or catch my eye & in general I love old fashioned traditional ones in classic red, cream , green & gold colour. Our tree is now jam packed but that doesn't stop me adding to it!

A box set not bags box set

I buy one expensive tree decoration a year, usually from somewhere I’ve visited on holiday. (Expensive = £15-20). Sometimes people buy me one especially if they go somewhere unusual.

My tree is decorated with happy memories from decades past.

The family spend a couple of hours decorating it and remembering where each one came from, the holiday or trip associated with it. Some people’s memories are better than others!

We use the same ones, natural wear and tear excepted, and buy one or two throughout the year if there is something we (as a family) like and they get added. So we have a spaceman, pint of butterbeer, a dog, a guy fawkes.

They don't match, it's not even, but they remind us of a fun time.

We have just one of each decoration. The first tree we ever had was tiny and I bought a mix of nice gold, silver and torquoise blue decorations. Those are still, 25 years later, the default colours but there are now also colourful decorations made by the kids, decorations we have bought on holiday etc etc. The main tree in the playroom is a really mish mash of different styles, I also have a little live tree in the sitting room that has all my beautiful delicate glass decorations that I've collected over the years. But both are full of memories.

I buy a couple of hand blown glass baubles each year.

@ZippyLimeSnake

Where do you shop for decorations?

Anywhere & everywhere 🤣
Some of my favourites were picked up from Homebase about 5 years ago, but I’ve picked tree decorations up literally all over the place. Our local garden centre also has really nice decorations in every Xmas.

StrawberryWater · 13/12/2024 14:53

I have far too many Christmas decorations as I get them for free. I have two 7.5 ft Christmas trees and still have hundreds of baubles left over.

@StrawberryWater

How do you get them for free?!

Garden centres are great places to look for baubles and decorations. I have WAAAAAAY too many now, I've just been up in the loft looking for a particular Christmas thing and have rummaged through at least six boxes - the clear plastic crate kind.

I only have one of each thing, or the same one but in different colours or styles. I used to buy a couple of each just in case one got broken, but as a strategy that doesn't work - the only ones that have got broken have been singletons! I've still got ones I bought in BHS at the turn of the century...

I aim for 12 of each type, but while some are identical others are more of a set.

e.g. I currently have most of this set of 12, but have purchased them a few at a time over a couple of years.
pewter decorations

I've got 12 of the blue and white Wedgwood baubles, 12 Willow Tree hanging angels and so on gathered over years.

For years when people have asked me what I want for Christmas, I point them to whatever it is I'm currently collecting 12 of, and tell them which ones I already have.

Great way to get a gift you really want (prices have ranged from £9 for one to £50+ for one) at a budget to suit the person asking.

It also means that nearly every single bauble is a memory of a person who matters to us as a family, so they are (to me) extra special.
We love pulling them out to dress the trees every year and the people who have gifted them seem to love seeing their gifts being treasures that get used.

I have a big tree in the living room and other trees in other rooms so there is always plenty of room for more.
