We are hosting partner’s family & likely my family too over Christmas - there may be an overlap! Two sides of the family don’t know each other very well & I’m thinking a game might be good for when the small talk runs out. Does anyone have a game they would recommend?

All guests are adults or teens, we will be short on space so can’t be anything too active. I have heard about a quiz game that can be linked to the tv which might work, but can’t remember the name. Anyone played anything fun that they would recommend?

I like ‘Hide in your bedroom until they’ve all gone home’. Failing that Qwirkle.

Santa versus Jesus and Santa Banter are good festive games

My teen loves Throw Throw Burrito

I've bought Chicken v Hotdog this year as an update to our game cupboard.

Is Outsmarted the game you're thinking of?

We have it, it's quite good.

Alternatively jackbox games are played on the TV with each person using their own device. There's lots of different ones, but some are very, very silly and funny.

We love Rummikub we play in teams of two when theres 8 of us
Dobble is good fun, quick game - up to 8 players
my mum always buys quiz/trivia from the charity shop and we've had some really good ones. no real limit on how many people can play
Pit is a good game - up to 8 players
card games always go down well in our family - one of our favourites being Donkey - I think you can play up to 12 players?

Articulate. It’s perfect for that sort of thing.

Sleetwave · 12/12/2024 14:16

Do you mean the 1% club game? If not we have a game in our family about Logos that is popular.

Gotta be Pie Face. That will soon relieve any awkwardness!

CatsForLife · 12/12/2024 14:29

The Sock Game. It’s perfect as no long rules to understand. A good ice-breaker.

wonderful, thank you everyone for all the recommendations - off to google them now.

We played 'just one' the other day, and plan to play again at Christmas.

Simple, low maintenance sit round the table game that's still fun and can be very funny.

Hayley1256 · 12/12/2024 15:45

Herd mentality, the sock game, poetry for neanderthals, hitster - I've found these great ice breaker games

forcliffssake · 12/12/2024 15:48

It's called Outsmarted. It's really good.

frozendaisy · 12/12/2024 16:21

Herd Mentality can create some good humoured banter, you can have s fairly big group playing

BlueChampagne · 12/12/2024 16:33

Prediction Whist is good fun for a gang.

If you like Rummikub I can recommend Ligretto
