Help me with ideas for my special nephew

I need to get a gift for my nephew around £20.

He is autistic, 15 and gives me no ideas!

My sister is never even sure what to get him! He has no obvious current hyperfocus though I did find him watching a top gear video but it was filmed in our hometown so could just be that.

I've obviously asked him and he just laughed at me. He is a poor communicator anyway but he finds it hilarious that no one knows what to get him!

All I can think of is Amazon voucher but I know he is reluctant to buy things for reasons only known to himself.

So any random but well received gifts you can think of that will suit my little weirdo?

(Definitely doesn't want Lego, puzzles, reading books)

Nice soft hoodie, Hollister do some nice ones and they often have discounts.

Foes he enjoy the cinema? You could give a gift card and present it with some treats.

Does he have an item of clothing that he likes or wears a lot? Like a t shirt or particular socks. If so maybe those but in a different colour. Or if he likes a particular chocolate.

Any books he likes? You could get him others by the same author.

Fidget/fiddle toys, heated blanked, oodie, freeze dried sweets, funny t shirt, walk an alpaca experience, led lights for his room, bop it game, Swiss army card, multitool pen.
My go to present for teenage boys is a survival bracelet and a how to survive a zombie apocalypse book.

Reading cushion? Noise cancelling headphones, oodie or oodie type thing Dunelm did some fleece types which were lighter .. teddy bear fleece? Music player ... , milk foamer/velvetiser , lined beanie hat, wind up torch/charger, ukulele..
All successful gifts for teens with autism.... But it is all really really individual

Love the suggestion of noise cancelling headphones/earphones. In fact I was watching Josie Gibson's Christmas Gift Guide on Channel 4 tonight and there was a section on what to buy teenagers and they included some of these as a good option. There was one fancy one that essentially works so you can decide what kind of noise to cancel out or reduce. Might be worth a watch if looking for ideas

For my autistic young relative I'm making him a hamper of his favourite chocolate & treats. He's very difficult to buy for, has stuff already and has other people buying for him. So I'm giving him something I know he'll use and enjoy.
Previously I've bought him an oodie, lamp to go with his interests, clothes. The giant bar of Cadbury chocolate from the Christmas bargains thread a couple of years ago was the biggest hit!.

A large Squishie pillow

They're filled with tiny little polystyrene balls that makes them lovely a squishy

Cuddle cushion, Xbox voucher, Roblox voucher, Spotify voucher, fidget toy, LED lights, cheap Oodie, Rubik's cube, headphones, soft blanket with whatever he likes on such as,Top Gear, cars, Fortnite, Minecraft, Avengers, Anime etc. His favourite treats, unless he’s like my autistic DC who has ARFID and only eats a small handful of foods.

Squishmallows

I think most toy shops have them

He might like Jellycats but they are more expensive but some are just adorable

Some DC with Autism get too hot so hoodies and blankets etc might not go down well

My autistic son's favourite gifts at that age:

A copy of the Highway Code
A meteorology station
A framed 16th century map of our home city
A vintage London Underground poster
Rollercoaster tycoon game
Incredible Cross Sections book by Stephen Biesty

What are his sensory needs? If you can find something that meets his sensory needs, you're likely to score.

My DS (under sensitive to tactile /proprioceptive senses) loves plastic tactile paving slabs, weighted blankets, scalp massagers, peanut ball etc.

His friend loves visual stimming and adores bubble timers, bubble lamps, marble runs, bath toys for pouring water etc.

imnotthatkindofmum · 12/12/2024 22:53

Some really great ideas here. He does love a blanket (rubbish at heat regulation so always has too many blankets and ends up sweating!)

No arfid but he is quite particular, I did look at a giant jar of sweets today so that could be a good one that he's probably love tbh.

The cuddle cushion idea is also good.

Thanks for all your suggestions!

If forgotten about boo it! Not sure it's good for him as he struggles with some motor skills but my 11 year old would love it!
