What were the BEST presents bought for your 6 month olds. I need some ideas. My daughter is visiting for Christmas and her baby will be 6 months old. Id like some ideas of gifts that were a big success with your little ones. Bear in mind this is the first time Ive seen them since he was born and they live in Canada so cant take anything too big back with them!

A Harrods Christmas bear or a steiff bear (with the year on the foot). Some board books - something like good night England and good night London or small beatrix potter books. Leather slip on soft shoes 6-12 months (littleshoos.co.uk) A Sophie giraffe was also a much loved gift by my DD1 at that age.

What is your budget?

Handprint kit
Toomies hide and squeak eggs
Child's Farm bedtime pillow spray
360 Sippy Cup

Little people nativity set

It's not a big gift, but this was our favourite travel toy at that age. It is easy to shove in a bag and doesn't make much noise at all, so might be useful on a plane. But with DS1 his favourite toy was IKEA stacking cups and DS2 this Playmobil Winnie-the-pooh thing.

And it's all not a toy, but at 6 months I found the sling that was lovely and soft and comfortable as a newborn wasn't supportive enough, so a visit to a sling library and a new sling was a hit with me, but also an unexpected expense!

My DS was given a jellycat Tails book for his first Christmas which he absolutely loved.

The Hide and Squeak eggs- if only because they lasted so long because there are so many different ways to play with them!

MindfulAndDemure · 12/12/2024 07:36

Sophie the giraffe teether sets are very popular for that age.

Depending on budget, a Lovevery play kit for her age?

Redlorryyellowlorryblue · 12/12/2024 07:54

Steiff bear….but she played with the box more in the short term!

Second this. I buy them for all the babies in my family and friendship circle as DD adored them and played with them for years. They're great value as not expensive either.

Can yo book with a photographer while they are here? I know that is more about the parents and you but it would be a lovely thing to have.

Just2MoreSeasons · 12/12/2024 09:52

I say a couple of bath toys. They are small but get played with every night!

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 12/12/2024 11:14

Duplo sets for that age, there’s a set of emergency vehicles that have magnets and are indestructible, eggs that fit inside each other, That’s not my elf etc books.

Rocknrollstar · 12/12/2024 11:32

Stacking beakers can be played with in lots of different ways and last forever. Buy a book for when baby is older? we bought a cloth book into which you could insert photos of all the members of the family that our babies loved.

DSis and DN live in Canada and DGP have sent money for DSis to order a tonie box abd and a selection of tonies. They have then purchased a tonie here that you can record onto and read a favourite childhood book aloud and purchased a hardback of the book to accompany it alongside a blanket to snuggle up with. That way when they go home after Christmas he can still hear grandma and grandpa reading the story to him.

More votes for Sophie giraffe, hide and squeak eggs. My DD has a jellycat since birth she lives 8 years later.
Also these wooden pop up people which don't look much but infants love https://www.galttoys.com/products/pop-up-toy

You would have to go second hand because for some reason it got discontinued but the Leapfrog Discovery house was loved by all children I knew.

Black and white baby book or fold out pictures.

Pop up tent too but maybe that's for later on.

Pop-Up Toy

An amusing wooden toy with 4 colourful figures which bob up and down on concealed springs. Designed to encourage hand/eye coordination and introduce colour awareness. Awarded 'Recommended' status by the Good Toy Guide.
