If you were choosing a necklace that had a single letter... would you choose your own initial or the initial of your husband/children? The husband and children all share the name initial.

My own.

I'd think it was quite odd wearing someone else's initial!

Not really. I have an annoushka necklace with 3 initials of my dc

My sister has asked for a specific necklace from my mum and for mum to choose which initial as a surprise 🤷.

Both?

I get that, and would also get the wife & husband - it's just the one initial that isn't your own that seems odd.

This is so funny, someone once bought me a necklace with my own initial on and I was so confused as to why I’d want that. Like I needed a name tag all the time or something. Turns out they were quite reasonable judging by pp. I’d get dh or dcs initial because at least it would make me think of them or could be sentimental, why would I want to wear my own name.

Purplecatshopaholic · 12/12/2024 10:40

Ha, funny how we are all different. I have never ever thought of wearing an initial other than my own, that is a new one on me, lol.

Same!

I have one with my initial and a different one with the initials of all four kids and Dh. I don't what them at the same time or else id look like a walking alphabet So either I would think!

Mipil · 12/12/2024 10:56

Usually initial necklaces are your own initial, although necklaces with the initials of your DC are becoming more common but they normally have one charm per child. I think most people will assume it is her initial and everyone who knows her name will ask why she has a letter “X” necklace. It could get tiring 😂

When I was a teenager, my boyfriend bought me a name necklace in a different alphabet (the language of their heritage but they weren’t fluent). Unfortunately, one of the letters in my name doesn’t exist in the alphabet but is usually transliterated using another letter. It was only many years later when I studied the language that I discovered that although it wasn’t pronounced the same way, the letters spelled the word for elephant 😂

My own

Ditto

HolyMoly24 · 12/12/2024 11:15

I'd probably prefer my kids initial more than my own but it sounds like she isn't going to mind either way

FloralMoon · 12/12/2024 11:26

I have the first letter of my son’s name (if we have more I’ll have another pendant added on) and many friends who have jewellery with a letter have their children’s initial, not their own.

Rocknrollstar · 12/12/2024 11:27

My GD says it’s the fashion to wear the initial of your partner which is what she does. Personally I think your own initial is best.

LostInTheMoonlight · 12/12/2024 11:32

I have a necklace with all of my children’s initials on and another necklace with my partners initial on. I wouldn’t wear one with my own initial. There are no rules though.

Scout2016 · 12/12/2024 11:32

I'm in the why on earth would you wear your own name or initial camp. You know your own name and are always with yourself. Every time I see it I think how odd it is. Unless it's on a sports top and actually of some identifying use.

JoelenesParrot · 12/12/2024 11:47

I wear a B for Bruce Springsteen but I am aware that’s quite niche…

Me too. It never occurred to me that it was even a question. If I was getting multiple initials I'd get all my DC but if it was just one letter for myself or a friend it would be the letter of the person it's a gift for first name.

I love this, good for you!

Sandandsea123 · 12/12/2024 12:28

I’d want my kids initials

SpikeGilesSandwich · 12/12/2024 22:06

I'd go for a Y or something completely unrelated to me or my family, just to confuse people.
