Partner’s Parents

I’ve been with my partner for 7 months but haven’t met his family yet. He’s very kindly invited me to spend Christmas with them and I’ve offered to take along food or to contribute in some way but he’s not really saying what they need or what would be best.

I also don’t want to turn up empty-handed so was looking for some gift ideas of around £20pp for his parents and one set of grandparents.

I was thinking a £50 restaurant voucher for the parents and for the grandparents maybe get a nice festive bouquet made up and nice tin of biscuits.

Open to ideas 🎄

Those are great ideas.

Take some wine too.

Don't go overboard.

Personally, I wouldn't get a voucher as then they'll know how much you've spent.
Nice wine perhaps?

Check if the parents are drinkers, if they are then combine your 2 x20 and get a bottle of champagne for them jointly. if you shop around, you should get something really good for £40 as lots of supermarkets and online wine merchants have big discounts at Christmas.
As a guideline if the normal retail price is about £50+ that will be a good champagne - like Louis Roederer or Jouet

I would NOT get a voucher because it is impersonal both towards them (haven't bothered to ask anything about them so have no idea what they want) and as a reflection of you (looks like you have no personality and just want to bung them some money) plus they will know the amount of money which for people you don't know can be seen as a bit vulgar.

check with your partner before hand about things like allergies etc and then posh biscuits or flowers are good.

Fortnum & Mason is great because everything - tins of biscuits, tea etc comes packaged beautifully, the quality is great, it's a treat for people who don't have easy access to one as they have interesting ranges - and people always think you spent waaay more than you did.

M&S do some lovely wine and cheese hampers that might go down well.

I don't know if this is different but I've got eldest bringing his new partner this year, he lives abroad we've never met her, but I wouldn't expect her to bring a present for each member of the family. (Wasn't expecting anything actually🤔although i have done her a few stocking fillers like i do for all my adult children). I'm sure a simple box of chocolates or something to share around on the day would be sufficient and appreciated.
