I've always built and wrapped them- go to home bargains and get some cheap wrapping paper

BiddyPop · 10/12/2024 13:44

If from Santa, they went loose on the floor beside her stocking and unwrapped (as Santa never wrapped in our houses) - to be found when we come down early in the morning.

From us, they tended to be smaller packages anyway, and were wrapped under the tree along with everything else (from me to DH, from DH to me, from various family members to us all or to any 1 of us...), and labelled to be opened in the afternoon.

All presents were in the sitting room

bushtailadventures · 10/12/2024 13:45

You could buy cheap paper tablecloths and wrap them with those. It will be more fun on Christmas morning if they're already built and ready for her to play.

TickingAlongNicely · 10/12/2024 13:47

With something like a blanket over.

However I'll never forget DDs face when she walked into the living room and saw the built wooden kitchen.

Home bargains have giant sacks for about £1.50, big enough to fit a bike in, buy a couple of them and a big bow.

IggyAce · 10/12/2024 13:48

You can usually get a cellophane bag to cover the bike & car I got one from home bargains one year.
Get the extra wide gift wrap and just wrap the sides and top of the larger items.

Lyonesse2020 · 10/12/2024 13:49

Cover them with a sheet, with a label taped on.

somuchtodonextyear · 10/12/2024 13:51

That's a lot of big presents for a 19 month old ...I think they'll be interested in the wrapping paper and not much more - I'd build them and just stick a bow on them

AwkwardPaws27 · 10/12/2024 13:51

I built the kitchen & "wrapped" it by laying a sheet of wrapping paper over the top and loosely taping the sides together.

There were fixtures missing so I'm really glad I built it in advance! The company sent the replacements. It took a couple of hours to build & by doing it in advance DS could play straight away.

Little Tikes car assembly is evil. Memories of hours' of work and a lot of swearing one Christmas Eve. Finally completed at 2am. We couldn't use power tools for fear of waking everyone up. Recommend you pre-build that one!

Retrogamer · 10/12/2024 14:09

Build it and put a big bow on them. I can imagine your little one getting excited seeing that and wanting to immediately play.

DennisSkinnersMolotov · 10/12/2024 14:36

Always pre-build, we even unbox toys and cut any tricky tags / add batteries if needed then repack and wrap (because fk you Buzz Lightyear doll in 2015). For anything big like a kitchen I buy a cheap roll of paper and just tape it over the front rather than fully wrapping. Kids still get to enjoy ripping the paper off.

Cyclingforcake · 10/12/2024 14:38

I bought some cheap Christmas fabric one year and now use it every year for any big presents. Because they’ll be bikes/scooters/dolls houses in your future.

rosydreams · 10/12/2024 14:53

if its super big just stick a large ribbon on it and place it under tree on christmas eve before bed

StrawberryWater · 10/12/2024 14:59

I wouldn't bother wrapping them up.

Stick a large bow on each gift and then paper over the door so she can walk through it to see what Santa has given her.

merryandbrightdelight · 10/12/2024 15:04

We've built them on Christmas Eve and then Christmas morning they're in the room with the presents, unwrapped, but built and ready to go, and kids have loved it!

No building this year for us, more baileys and cheese for me 😁🤣

givemushypeasachance · 10/12/2024 16:39

I don't think a 19 month old would really care - next year they'll be properly into the "Father Christmas has been" "wow look at these presents what could they be" sort of thing. At this age they'll mostly follow cues from you so if you're excited they'll get excited and wrapping stuff is a bit pointless.

BeaLola · 10/12/2024 20:14

When my DF bought my then DS4 a bike he covered it in a large bedsheet and put a huge red bow on it - I will never forget the look of joy on DS face when he pulled the bow, the sheet dropped and he saw the bike.

Definitely build the kitchen - otherwise they won't be able to play with it for ages
