Dollshouse or Yoto Player

Please help us decide! Should we get a traditional wooden dolls house or a Yoto Player for my 4 year old daughter for Christmas?!
Context: have bought 8 year old son a bike, so quite a physically big present. Daughter does already have a playmobil house which she likes but I keep thinking a bigger dollshouse at this age is a nice present and would be of equal size/stature to the bike. We have a small house though?!
I've heard great things about Yoto Players ie screen free time, and they get used a lot, and for years.
Help! Need to decide, order and move on, ha!!

I’ve said Dollshouse, I have 3 DDs and all played with dolls houses even though they all had different tastes.

you don’t have to buy a giant one or if you do you can downsize later. We had the big wooden one for a few years which we eventually got rid off for space then bought a small folding barbie house for our youngest, she would have been 4, we upgraded it to the bigger barbie house a year later. It’s great as it folds away. She’s 7 now and still plays with it but is definitely loosing interest, she only plays with it when friends come round now.

We never got around to getting a yo-yo player so can’t comment on them.

Both a huge hit here - but you have a lot more opportunities for Yoto. It lasts them til they're 12 or older

You can get a dollshouse secondhand for decent money. I'd consider both.

DS has had his yoto for 4 years and it gets used every day. Does she want the dolls house? I think the only reason I'd buy a large present like that would be if they really really wanted it, especially as you say you've got a small house and another child

We love our Yoto and my just-5yo got one today for his birthday. My 6yo has had his for a year or two now and loves it. Daily use from the podcast which is pretty educational, the radio for bedtime lullabies, and I’m constantly harassed to upload tracks of their choice onto their own cards (which you can do as well as pre bought ones). I only have boys though and we’ve never had a dolls house.

My DD8 still loves her wooden dollhouse - she doesn't play with it much anymore buy has it proudly on display in her room. She even decorated it for Xmas. It originally belonged to her cousin and we will pass it onto another family member when she is ready to let go

I've said Yoto purely because she already has the Playmobil house. I'd get the Yoto this year and upgrade the dolls house at a later date. My DD is 6 and wants all Barbie stuff now so you might hold out until then.

This is what I came to say. I was going to suggest an Alexa kids instead of Yoto as they have better flexibility Audible, Libby, Spotify all can play via it, but you might have missed the best deals I think I got them for around £25.

I got a dolls house from a charity shop for £10, you'll be able to find one for cheap on FB.

I've bought DC a yoto for Xmas as I think they are very versatile
Could your two share a yoto?

ThomasPatrickKeatingsDegas · 08/12/2024 22:38

Both. I’d buy the YOTO new and dolls houses are VERY easy to buy on Facebook market place and local buy/sell groups. I just picked up a lovely one today coincidentally! Just get one in nice a condition.

Dolls houses are wonderful if given early enough..my 4 year old loves playing with one we’ve got here. It was hardly played with by my daughter as we got it when she was 9 and too old to really engage with it in an imaginative way.

FlatStanley50 · 08/12/2024 22:51

My daughter is 10 and still listens to her yoto every day, it has had such a lot of use. Her dolls house lasted a couple of years maybe. But I know what you mean about matching the large size. She did like the dolls house when she got it but it did end up gathering dust when she moved on to sylvanians and other things like hatchimals
