17 year old niece help

I am completely stuck what to get niece this year. I've asked her and her mum and both said no idea.
She likes and plays football but pretty sure she has everything she needs.
Bit of a tomboy, wears a lot of Nike but very specific on what she wears, only certain joggers, T-shirts, socks etc
Doesn't wear makeup or perfume.
Doesn't like fragranced toiletries or creams etc.
she will soon be moving into college accommodation so I thought something for her room but I have no idea what she has already.
Apart from vouchers any other ideas that a just turned 17 year old girl would like?

what’s your budget? Could you stretch to tickets to a football match?

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 07/12/2024 17:04

Bulletin/message board for wall?

Timeforabiscuit · 07/12/2024 17:06

As she is moving to residential college what subjects is she doing, or interests does she have?

Does she wear any jewellery?

Perhaps a big bed fleece or oodie?

SweetPeaPods · 08/12/2024 11:02

Sorry should have added budget. Around £35 if possible.
She doesn't wear jewellery and studying something sport related but I don't think she will need anything for it.

A heated blanket or oodie like PP said would be good as she’s moving out

DustyLee123 · 08/12/2024 11:04

How about a Christmas basket with a blanket, fluffy socks, chocolate, face masks, lip balm, mug etc

Timeforabiscuit · 08/12/2024 11:08

If it's sports, a care kit of good moisturiser, lip balm, fingerless gloves, maybe a Stanley cup/good sports water bottle.

If she's going into dorms, some crocs or sliders for going into the showers?

Head torch or high Vis running vest ?

My 17 yo dd says good pens, a notebook and a smart but slimline pencil case.
Or a voucher, yes they may not be personal, but it means she gets to buy something she actually wants.

leia24 · 08/12/2024 11:12

I think I'd get her something like chocolate that she likes and a gift voucher

Pumpkincozynights · 08/12/2024 11:17

I think I’d give her the cash.
Other than that what about decent stationery.

lollylawyer · 08/12/2024 12:06

Portable coffee cup that doesn’t leak for taking to college ? One with a screw cap that can be shoved in a bag after drinking without leakage is good!
winter crocs
failing that get her a JD sports voucher and you probably can’t go wrong with Nike socks if you don’t want to just give a voucher

MounjaroUser · 08/12/2024 12:09

Argh I get really irritated when someone doesn't know what they'd like but expects you to know!

Dublinstar · 08/12/2024 12:10

How about lined fluffy crocs, my two girls are a similar age and have both asked for these for Christmas.

SweetPeaPods · 08/12/2024 22:05

Thanks, some great ideas. I'm sure she has crocs but will check with sil to see if she has a Stanley or an oodie

17yo niece and nephew are getting cash, it’s what everyone is getting them and what they want. Both have typical teenage specific tastes and hobbies and would rather spend money on what they like.

reluctantbrit · 09/12/2024 08:09

Either chocolate and cash/voucher or things like a water bottle/coffee mug. Blanket or oodie are also good.

Maybe ask the mum where she normally gets her gear from, some shops are fussy about using vouchers online. Someone recently posted about issues with JD sports.

mamajong · 09/12/2024 08:13

Hot water bottle, cosy/weighted blanket, hand warmers, hot chocolate station, ankle/wrist weights are all on sporty DD list (16)

Whichone2024 · 09/12/2024 09:12

Gift card for sports direct and travel flask?

Whichone2024 · 09/12/2024 09:15

Or I just saw this haha if she can’t decide and you can’t decide it can decide for you.

it could be a fun tradition you give her every year and she could end up with quite and eclectic collection of football shirts!

If she's studying and playing sports maybe a massage gun will be handy? You can get them on Amazon for around your budget

DisruptiveCumin · 10/12/2024 05:22

If she has a favorite team, you can get her something related to them, maybe even from their official store, or a personalized item like a custom photo planner with their pictures and images of the members' signatures.
Ankle/wrist weights could be a great idea, but you need to know the weight exactly, if you decide to go this route.
