For the local giving tree (secret Santa kind of thing) we've been allocated an 11yo old boy who enjoys coding using Scratch and creating other games.

What on earth can I buy - for between £5 and £10?

Not my world at all. I had to google Scratch.

I think I'd look for some sort of card game, Dobble, Taco Goat Cheese Pizza, or Uno something along those lines.

Very hard age to buy for.

A book on coding or game making.

I did look at Coding books but very hard to find anything g which use both age-appropriate AND not for beginners. He doesn't sound like a beginner.

I'll have a look at Taco Cheese etc.

Raspberry Pi/ Raspberry Pi foundation might have something useful - you could get a microcontroller like the Raspberry Pi Pico W and include a link to the raspberry Pi foundation's "getting started" project?

I don't know how kid friendly that is though! They might have other books etc.

Raspberry Pi Pico W

Following the hugely popular Raspberry Pi Pico, the new Raspberry Pi Pico W is a wireless-enabled version of the RP2040-based board, adding 2.4GHz 802.11n WiFi connectivity! The addition of wireless connectivity opens up the Pico W to a vast new range...

Looking at that Raspberry Pi thing, it needs a computer. No guarantee that the child will have access to one.

A Givjng tree gift is anonymous so I can't check if he has a computer. I wouldn't assume so. More likely he uses scratch at school. It's all referrals from homeless charities and similar so difficult circs.

That's my thoughts too it's more likely a child getting gifts from a giving tree doesn't have a computer at home.
Or if they do, it's probably a hand me down without wi-fi.

I wouldn't stick with something that is a stand-alone gift.

Op very kind of you to do this
