What are your favourite Christmas songs? I love all Christmas songs so it's difficult to choose and my list could but my favourites are:

Last Christmas - Wham (love Wham and GM)

Christmas Wrapping - The Waitresses

One More Sleep - Leona Lewis.
Not particularly a LL fan but love this

Carol of The Bells - by anyone!

Yes, I believe River was released in June 1971, but it is definitely festive (and as @FuckItItsFine says, it incorporates an element of Jingle Bells within the music) so for me, it's definitely a Christmas song; see opening line.

River: Lyrics

It's coming on Christmas
They're cutting down trees
They're putting up reindeer
And singing songs of joy and peace
Oh, I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
But it don't snow here
It stays pretty green
I'm going to make a lot of money
Then I'm going to quit this crazy scene
I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
I wish I had a river so long
I would teach my feet to fly
Oh, I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
I made my baby cry
He tried hard to help me
You know, he put me at ease
And he loved me so naughty
Made me weak in the knees
Oh, I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
I'm so hard to handle
I'm selfish and I'm sad
Now I've gone and lost the best baby
That I ever had
Oh, I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
I wish I had a river so long
I would teach my feet to fly
Oh, I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
I made my baby say goodbye
It's coming on Christmas
They're cutting down trees
They're putting up reindeer
Singing songs of joy and peace
I wish I had a river
I could skate away on

No, sorry, it wasn't to you. It was just a general musing. Sorry, it started typing it then had to run. Meant to just say 'here's the lyrics in case anyone is interested'

I Believe in Father Christmas by Greg Lake. Makes my spine tingle and it's never played enough!

Edited

It's a beautiful song. Greg Laje wrote it in protest at the commercialisation if Christmas - even back then.

That Mike Oldfield track is a real favourite in our family. As soon as it comes on, it’s traditional to drop whatever you are doing, and dance around, spinning and linking arms (barn dance-style) and to perform air guitar at the appropriate points. It’s not Christmas morning without it 😄

I used to be SO against Stay Another Day being a Christmas song, but after seeing it in so many Christmas song countdowns, I've fully embraced it and included it in my own Spotify Christmas playlist!

The songwriter wrote it about his brother's suicide. So sad and really not Christmassy but it does have a beautiful Christmas feel to it if you don't think about the context.
