What to get a 9 year old girl?

Help! Any suggestions for what to get a girl who turns 9 over the Christmas period? Need Christmas and birthday presents. She’s a relative and lives in a different European country. I’ve always got her outfit, book and toy for each occasion in the past, but feel like this approach has become harder as she gets older. My own children are much younger, so just don’t know what 9 year olds are into. She does like Harry Potter, plays music and sports (although very specific ones) and is generally a lovely child. Skincare/make-up aren’t suitable, but any other suggestions would be gracefully received.

Aquarellum

Ideas based on what she still uses, got for her recent birthday, talked about wanting ...

Mini waffle maker
Posca pens
Mug in a cup
Croc charms
Magic clay
Washi tape
Buddy Oliver cookbook
Ugg boots
Flared leggings
Netball hoop
Books - Harry Potter, Ballet Besties, Lottie Brooks, The Girl of Ink and Stars
Anything Snoopy
Legami pens
Gymnastics mat
Soft toys - squishmallows or Jellycat
Hair ties, claw clips, scrunchies etc
Pjs/loungewear
Bento box
Chopsticks

I realise that you are probably unlikely to post a netball hoop or gymnastics mat but it might be useful for other readers.

Banjo
Jellycat - either Christmas related or one of their standard ones

Please consider the so called "boys toys" for your daughter. Women have been very underrepresented in STEM careers especially the higher responsibility and better paid ones. One of the reasons is that boys are given a big headstart with the toys they are bought. Complex building kits, age appropriate tools for making things, chemistry sets and tech that needs some thinking skills like a raspberry pi. Gendered toys are holding our girls back.

If she likes music maybe an instrument. Acoustic guitar and keyboard and probably the best ones to self teach. There are loads of YouTube videos teaching beginners for free and music helps with maths.

Thanks. It’s a good reminder. My children are growing up in a family full of engineers and we were pretty good at trying to encourage broad interests when very little, but my eldest’s requests have become much more stereotypically gendered since starting school.

The girl I need to buy a present for (who isn’t my child) isn’t a “girly” girl - plays a pretty rough sport, have never seen her with dolls etc.

thanks everyone for the great ideas - very helpful. Funnily enough, she plays the banjo and guitar.

Smiggle stationery
Squishmallows

My DD aged 9 is getting; mostly what she's asked for:

lego
science kits (geology, electronics)
logic games
books
craft supplies
walkie talkies
Harry Potter squishmallows
theatre tickets
sports equipment

I too would like to see STEM toys more the norm for girls. We've always tried to lean that way with toys whilst still also having some toys that teach socialising and caring like dolls and small world stuff. She's great at maths and engineers incredible things from her construction toys.
