There's only the 4 of us this year but the children still want us to continue as normal so we'll be eating leftovers until Jan 1st :)

We're all veggie so no meat and we are having stuffing, potatoes, creamy cabbage and leaks, parsnip tartine, macaroni cheese (this has fallen into family tradition and I can't even remember why) sprouts, carrots, cavalo nero & gravy. Pud will be sticky toffee pudding.

I'm stuffed just thinking about it!

Parsnip tartine sounds interesting. All sounds lovely. We are really reduced in numbers too this year and i think I'm going to do a chicken and gammon instead of Turkey then the usual bread sauce, cranberry, pigs in blankets, roast potatoes, roast parsnips, sprouts with bacon and chestnuts, cauliflower cheese, red cabbage, carrots. I'm stopping there, it was supposed to be simple this year. Shock(Christmas pud and mince pies with icecream and cream and brandy butter)

Veggie household here. Nut roast, red cabbage, Yorkshires, roast spuds, quorn cocktail sausages, roasted parsnips & carrots, some more veg and loads of gravy. Pudding is a chocolate cake from a local bakery with ice cream or cream or gingerbread house.

Sounds delicious.

We will have the traditional turkey, 2 types of stuffing, pigs in blankets, roast potatoes, glazed carrots, sprouts with chestnuts and bacon, broccoli, green beans, roasted cauliflower and cheesy leeks. Gravy, bread sauce and cranberry sauce.
No starter but maybe a few canapés, usually aim to serve around three. Will have Christmas pudding and mince pies but they never tend to get eaten until Boxing Day at the earliest. Cheese board usually comes out around 2100.

Openmouthinsertfood · 01/12/2024 16:11

I'll be eating on my own but I still plan to do a roast. Veggie here too. I will be having peas, broccoli, Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and gravy. No starter. Not sure about desert yet. But I have treated myself to some Hotel Chocolat for later when watching the TV.

I don't really get why making a vegetarian roast dinner means you will be eating leftovers for a week. Try cooking smaller amounts of things or freezing some. I do a similar style of meal for 8 and there won't be anything much leftover.

Probably just DH and me on the 24th and 25th so was thinking of just buying our favourite festive foods and making up picky plates at lunch and dinner time. So prawns, blinis with smoked salmon, snails in garlic butter, sprouts and parsnips, Stollen, chocolates and I’ll make a chocolate Yule log and festive cookies. Champagne and wines and Probably pâtés/terrines and cheeses (not necessarily festive but a nice treat).

If DH’s parents can come, it will be all of the above but presented as proper meals, with probably a chapon as the bird, my beloved sprouts and parsnips, roast potatoes, and homemade gravy. Will also get Panettone as FIL loves it.

Bbq pulled pork nachos and a cheeseboard. Nobody wants a roast this year!

reluctantbrit · 01/12/2024 16:34

Tiny chicken and small lamb roast
Roasted potatoes, carrots and parsnips
pigs in blanket
sprouts for one person
gravy

Starter unknown
Dessert: chocolate christmas spiced pannacotta

We are always only 3 so you just make small portion of everything.

It's my birthday that day and I've requested one of DP's amazing curries (plus sides), followed as usual by a slice of birthday cake. After 50+ years of eating the same meal every year I now get to choose what I want.

Parker231 · 01/12/2024 16:54

There will be 17 of us having a huge cold buffet. No one particularly likes the traditional meal and no one wants to be spending any time in the kitchen.

mondaytosunday · 01/12/2024 17:27

We are meat eaters and woe betide me if the menu gets changed! I'm a widow and we alternate Christmas here just the three of us or (except Covid years) going to the States to stay with my two sisters and niece.
So, trad turkey with stuffing, roasted parsnips and carrots, french beans, sprouts, roasties, sweet potato, cranberry sauce, bread sauce, gravy, pigs in blankets, Yorkshire pudding (this a not what I grew up with tradition that everyone likes too much to leave out).
Have to say I grew up in America and mac 'n cheese was a stodgy overcooked plastic staple at school lunches and I cannot bring myself to even try it here.

It was meant in a lighthearted way. I don't actually think I'll be eating the same meal for a week.

In a hot country this year so will have a seafood and salad buffet followed by trifle and ice cream. Boxing day will be a fish and steak bbq with salads and ice cream.

GameOfJones · 03/12/2024 17:23

The leftovers are the best bit! I purposefully make double whatever we need for Christmas dinner specifically to have on sandwiches for a few days and then make a pie with anything still left over (including making a cheese sauce for the pie filling out of all of the leftover bits of cheese.)

This year we're having gammon. It'll be only the second year ever that we've not had turkey. Christmas dinner will be:

Gammon
Roast potatoes
Honey roast carrots and parsnips
Sprouts
Sage and onion stuffing
Pigs in blankets
Yorkshire pudding
Gravy

Dessert will be Christmas pudding, which I've already made with custard.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 03/12/2024 17:33

Same as usual, dinner at 5 or 6, no starter, turkey, roast potatoes (lots!) and parsnips, carrots and sprouts au naturel (we like them plain), sage, onion and sausagemeat stuffing, pigs in blankets, cranberry sauce, lots of proper gravy made with giblet stock, 🎄pudding and brandy butter.
All as far as poss homemade.
Which reminds me, will make stuffing and Ps in Bs tomorrow, and stick in the freezer.
Puds were made a month ago.
Might also make a Delia’s Christmas compote, made of sundry dried fruits simmered in orange juice and spices IIRC. VV nice for breakfast, too.

There will also be a big piece of gammon, but we don’t usually start on that until Boxing Day.
