Suggestions for real Christmas tree themes help

I am really bored of my Christmas tree decorations. They are a right mix of vintages and styles gathered over the years. Whilst this is ok, its become a style in itself and I'd like something new.

I've been searching for ideas but all I can find is sites with overstuffed American style trees circa 2015 and niche things like nautical or Barbie. Anyone found anything with nice useable suggestions please?

How xan you be bored with something that only comes out once a year?
The theme is Christmas surely?

Maybe just use some of the ones you've collected and add some new colours ?

John Lewis do lovely Christmas tree decorations and they have several themes each year.

What's you favourite colour OP?

Or favourite colour you don't have in your house?

You could go white/icy clear baubles

Or red green like the Queen did

Woodland with felt animals and green brown

Metallics, silver rose gold

Total kitsch with gingerbread men, candy canes

Can’t beat gold/champagne and dark red - no tinsel though!!!

Some of the Sostrene Grene decorations are on the unusual side.

You could look at their website and perhaps IKEA's too, with a view to adding a dash of Scandinavia to your decorations this year.

It looks the same every year - Christmas mish, mash.
My son is at Uni now so whilst I still love the bits he made, some of the kids friendly decorations look daft. I have plaster decorations from the 50's that look grubby and sparkly glitter things that look cheap.

I need a revamp! I will absolutely buy a few bits ( rather than the whole lot) but I need to see what looks good. There's way too much choice now.

To add..l know every decoration I can envisage is out there. I just need to see examples of what works together.

My tree starts with a base of warm white lights. Small and classy. No tinsle. Then a set of baubles that are red and white, a bit scandi looking, which kind of tie it altogether with l a bit of a colour scheme. Then over the last few years I have collected beautiful new baubles. All different but the theme is large, lovely textures, shiny and matte, rich colours or delicate neutrals. We each choose a new one when we get our tree. It looks eclectic but it's the lack of matching that makes it look beautiful in my opinion.
Too much matching and it looks like a hotel reception tree.

Front room: 7' real tree, lots and lots of warm white lights, static or gently twinkling, gold, silver, bronze and crystal baubles in all classic shapes and sizes. May be boring for some, but we love it.

Dining room: unusual ex-lifestyle-shop artificial but natural-looking tree with lots of tiny warm white lights, with woodland foliage, nuts, berries, birds and mammals. some would say twee, but we love it.

Do what makes you happy!

Red Glass baubles with gold trim are pretty.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 30/11/2024 22:24

we have mostly jewel toned baubles - easy to add to and have lots of different ones in different colours that complement each other. I think I bought a box of twelve to start with and then picked up more along the years, while phasing out old ones. It’s also easy to mix in some non jewel coloured ones. Warm white twinkling lights, no tinsel.

Spagettifunctional · 30/11/2024 22:28

I totally get you - you want a more cohesive look now your son had left home

mine is mostly glitz - gold, Pearl - some picked up cheaply and then a few expensive ones - I love them all

I made a theme one year which was inspired by a mamas and papas Christmas stocking. I embellished it myself and the theme was a mush of artic/scandi/northern lights/fairytale.

Colours were: deep navy, mint green, powder blue, lavender, white, silver, and ashy wood.

Textures were: wood, sparkles, fur, wool

Objects/motifs were: snowflakes, trees and things made out of wood, stars, antlers, deer, bears, foxes (wooden or white), birds.

My most favourite theme ever, but I also love a red and white version and the rest of my family prefer it, so it was ditched. I still have some decs and plan to find a space to make just into that theme!

SilverDoe · 30/11/2024 22:39

Oh and an extra colour was clear with a pearlescent finish! Writing this out has made me kind of want to get a second Christmas tree ha

If you're stuck for inspiration, The Range and John Lewis organise their decorations into themes every year; they have new bits each year but the themes usually iterate upon the previous years. For example, each year The Range do a red and white coloured theme called Candyland, and John Lewis have an autumn coloured theme, and a pink pastel theme.

I love all of them 😭 but I don't think I could do the autumn one, it's beautiful but doesn't feel Christmassy at all to me.

Oh my god that sounds absolutely GORGEOUS @SilverDoe

This year we are calm and neutral in a different house. We have went with sage green, cream, champagne and wood. Still have my youngest daughters nursery crown on top...she's 17! But bought lots of new baubles from the range and home bargains and b and m. Can really vouch for the range. They have some amazing choices and colour schemes. And I got a new habitat 6 foot snow flocked beige pre lit tree. Spent more on all the baubles tbh! Wooden habitat skirt looks great too. I'm loving it and put it up earlier than ever known last weekend
