Stocking location!

Where are we all putting our stockings Christmas Eve?

So far I've always done end of the bed, but I'm worried one of these years DS will wake up during the night and become concerned with Santas appearance 😂 Need more ideas!

I always had mine placed at the end of my bed. Never once woke😊 my mum always reminisces about feeling the heavy stocking crinkling beneath her feet when she woke, so I think that's why she did the same for us. I was so excited to wake up and slowly realise he'd been when I could feel it!

Living room fireplace because he comes down the chimney, obviously!

I dont get why you’d put them in the kids bedrooms and risk getting caught.

We don't have a fireplace at all. Similar to the poster up thread, my mum put them on our beds so it's what I know and I just remember the excitement of feeling it on the bed when you wake up in the dark and knowing he's been.

Bedroom door handle. Child sleeps like a log!

leia24 · 30/11/2024 19:42

Outside the bedroom door for us

fanbus · 30/11/2024 19:43

On a wreath hanger hooked over the outside of their bedroom doors.

Gumbo · 30/11/2024 19:47

I remember hearing my mother sleeping into my room with my stocking for my bed when I was a child - the magic was ruined! I have therefore always done stockings under the tree downstairs, DC can wake up and run down and get them and bring them up to our bed in the morning.

Gleeanda · 30/11/2024 19:51

Living room fireplace.

As a child I woke up one Christmas morning to find Father Christmas had not only not brought presents, but he'd nicked my stocking!!

Apparently I had been stirring so Father Christmas had decided in his wisdom to take my stocking from next to my bed, and leave it outside my bedroom on the landing. I only discovered this after what felt like days of sobbing about what a horrible person I must be for FC to have done that.

So strictly no stockings in bedrooms for my kids!

pizzaHeart · 30/11/2024 19:57

On the wardrobe handles.
I go after midnight, take them off then bring them in. DD’s stocking has little bells on it - buying it was the biggest mistake of my life 😆

Pineapplewaves · 30/11/2024 20:10

Next to the Christmas tree. When I was a child DM used to leave them outside our bedroom door.

On the bed. I've been testing the floorboards to work out which ones are creaky so I can dive in and swap them as stealthily as possible.

Have you ever seen the Big Bang Theory episode about the squeaky floor in the kids room. It’s not about Christmas but it is quite amusing.

Fireplace in living room

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 30/11/2024 20:28

My son decided one year to put it in front of the spare room door so that's where they go now.

Works out well for me!

Sunnyside4 · 30/11/2024 20:28

Dd didn't want to be disturbed by Santa, so hers was left outside her room.

PlanBea · 30/11/2024 22:00

Last year we left them on the landing on stocking hangers on the handrail - DS was 2 and was cosleeping so someone was with him overnight/he didn't leave his room till an appropriate time.

This year he's 3 and sleeping alone but does occasionally wake overnight. I'm a bit worried he'd pull the stocking and the heavy hanger down on his head this year, so they might end up in our room for us to open in bed together. It'll also stop him opening it at 1am and refusing to go back to sleep with the excitement. We'll see what the plan ends up being!

PlanBea · 30/11/2024 22:01

I meant to also add, we have two of each of the stockings following a tip on here. Totally takes the stress away of how much fits/is it too empty or full/doing a switch etc and one less task the night before!

JaninaDuszejko · 30/11/2024 22:08

By the fireplace in the sitting room. As were ours as a child, and DHs. Can't imagine why you'd risk putting them in the bedroom.

PeachPumpkin · 30/11/2024 22:18

Always at the end of the bed. Nothing like nudging the stocking in the morning with your foot and hearing that rustle.

rosydreams · 30/11/2024 22:22

I always put them on the banister upstairs just outside the bedroom doors .That way its easier to just sneak out my bedroom at night, and bring them in my bedroom and stuff them at my leisure

UpTheMagicChristmasTree · 30/11/2024 22:32

End of the bed for dd, I love the Christmas Eve jeopardy! That feeling and rustle of the filled stocking just wouldn't be the same otherwise.

EveryDayisFriday · 30/11/2024 22:37

Inside the bedroom door.

A tip for people starting this (I wish I'd done it!) Get 2x stockings each for the kids. Hang one up before bed and fill one with gifts, it's a quick and easy swap in the night.

Samandytimlucypeterolivia · 30/11/2024 23:27

Dc hand them by thier beds. Although dd knows DS is too old for Santa to visit so I’m doing his.

We us3d to do this but my dc move too much and many times it’s ended up on the floor so the last 5 years we’ve used a hook I brought specifically for stockings from b&m

MadmansLibrary · 30/11/2024 23:51

I have a hook on the back of the door where all the coats/Oodies/onesies live, and the stocking just gets added to that. It's quite fun in a way for DD as she doesn't always immediately see it amidst the clutter, so there's a nice wee adrenaline rush on top of the standard Christmas morning thrill. At least, that's what I tell myself to excuse my not clearing everything off the door.

okydokethen · 01/12/2024 00:00

my stocking advice is get two identical stockings per child. My presents are wrapped and in stocking already. DC will hang up the empty one and it's a simple swap late at night without worrying you'll wake them or have to faff around filling stocking up.
