"Drawing bits" for teens

Ds(15) has finally given this Christmas "list", short and sweet - money, snacks and drawing bits. He's not an artist as such, wants to go into game design and likes to sketch characters etc, so I am happy to buy some nice pens, pencils, sketch books etc and was looking for recommendations of good, professional brands to buy.

Thank you

I don't know about professional brands but DS had a similar ask on his last year and we were quite impressed with the sets in B&M. They had a few professional looking pencil and pen sets and some good quality sketch pads

For pencils my daughter uses Faber-Castell Castell polychromos but her style of art is much different to what your son wants to do.
In terms of paper you will most likely be looking for a smooth paper so look for hot press ultra fine or something like that and get a grammage over 250 GSM (more for pens I would say but I have no experience of this)
I use sites like Cass Art or Jackson's art and you can usually filter by the type of art you want to do then the correct things come up that way.
Hope that helps a little. Beware it can get expensive! Daughter's pencils can be around £2-3 individually and she can go through several of each colour per picture she draws, then the paper can also start adding up.

Paint pens from Amazon have been an incredible addition in our house this year. You can layer them so no concerns about getting each stroke accurate first time but all the finesse of a felt tip.

This Scrawlr box is reduced to £5 and DS and I really enjoyed it. The pens inside were really good too, especially the fineliner. (The UNI pens are great for graphic drawing.)

Posca pens are really popular with teens.

You might not want to spend this much, but with the extra 20% off it's £68, reduced from £189.

Posca pens are also great
Costco have a set at the moment x

Was coming to recommend Posca pens. My DD gets through loads (admittedly is an A level Art student)

TK Maxx usually has a selection of great sketch pads and pencils. My DD usually asks for drawing materials and that's where I go.

I came on to find out why on earth you would be drawing genitals for a teenager!
