christmasmoviesuggestions · 29/11/2024 16:01

Please suggest good Christmas movies.

Saving Santa was too much for him.

I showed him polar express but he already believes in Santa so didn't make sense to him.

Arthur Christmas was a big favourite here about that age

BarnacleBeasley · 29/11/2024 16:04

Stick Man? My 3yo doesn't have the staying power for a full-length movie, so about half an hour is good.

tweetypi · 29/11/2024 16:11

The snowman is lovely. I like Robbie the Reindeer too!
I find proper Christmas films always feel like there is some doubt about Santa's existence?!

GrumpyCactus · 29/11/2024 16:13

Agree with stickman. It's short, catchy and sufficiently Christmassy. Anything much longer or more complex would probably lead to boredom or go over the head of a 3 year old.

LochNessy · 29/11/2024 16:14

Any of the Julia Donaldson films (stick man, and the gruffalos child are a little bit Christmassy I suppose?) are a huge hit with our ds.
Also not a film but he adores the ‘something special’ mr tumble Christmas episode (it’s on bbc iPlayer and I think it’s under season 11)

disney plus also have some Mickey Mouse Christmas films that are made up of shorter stories (once upon a Christmas, twice upon a Christmas etc)

LochNessy · 29/11/2024 16:16

O I also forgot, he adores the various CBeebies pantos (on bbc iplayer) his favourites are Peter Pan, Robin Hood and The night before Christmas, but there are many more and they’re all good!

Oh yes he sees that when it's not Christmas too. So it's an all year long one.

Thank you for the other suggestions!

Mine really liked The Grinch (the old one with Jim Carey in it) when his big sister was watching it earlier this week!

merryhouse · 29/11/2024 16:38

Elf? we didn't think it was particularly good but we weren't watching with a 3yo, and people who do seem to rave about it

We break the movies down over 2-3 days. 🤣

My 3yo has watched the santa clause (disney plus) 5 times. Didn't think he'd like it - live action/ American comedy thing but he's obsessed!

GettingStuffed · 29/11/2024 16:50

If you can find, the shrek chrtmas one, or the Madagascar one etc. Most of the animated big films have shorter festive versions. My son's favourite is the penguins of Madagascar and he rolls about laughing. Pity he's 36

MarvelJesus · 29/11/2024 16:52

The Channel 4 app (free to view) has The Snowman, The Snowman and the Snowdog, and Father Christmas, which should be just right.

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 29/11/2024 17:01

Mine used to like Mr Poppeds
penguins may not watch it all in one go though!

christmasmoviesuggestions · 29/11/2024 18:08

Wow there are all wonderful suggestions. Thank you so much all! xx

Does he like the Octonauts? Mine both loved it. There are some great Christmas episodes - A Very Vegimal Christmas is one we still watch now even though they’re 10 and 13! I think Christmas episodes of their favourite programmes work really well at that age. There are some lovely Postman Pat Christmas episodes for example.

Christmas with a 3 yr old will be magical!

RhaenysRocks · 30/11/2024 06:44

Christmas episodes of Thomas the Tank went down well here. 3 is quite young for whole films. Maybe Frozen or one of the spin off shorts.

Misslola1999 · 30/11/2024 06:47

Nativity! (Any of them apart from the 4th!) always held the attention of mine from that age - it's bright, colourful and full of music. We still watch them together years later!

BloodyGhosts · 30/11/2024 07:04

The Christmas Shaun the Sheep movie is brilliant - silly but very gentle. I think it's called The Flight Before Christmas. My two loved it last year (then 2 and 5).

Also following for more recommendations!

Bernadinetta · 30/11/2024 07:09

OP, have a look and Channel 4’s TV schedule for this Sunday afternoon (1st Dec) and if you have a recording function on your TV then record: The Snowman, The Snowman & Snowdog, Father Christmas, Mog’s Christmas, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt and The Tiger Who Came to Tea.

On Netflix- Angela’s Christmas, Angela’s Christmas 2 and Robin Robin.

On Disney+ Olaf’s Frozen Adventure

RealHousewivesOfTaunton · 30/11/2024 07:11

Alien Xmas is loved here. It's only 40 minutes.

We watch The Snowman and Father Christmas every year when we put up the Christmas tree. It's become a tradition.

MayaPinion · 30/11/2024 07:12

Might be a bit young for Home Alone but my DS and his friend (now 17) have watched it together every year since they were very little, and they still laugh like drains!
