Stocking fillers for men who don't have hobbies

Help me please MN! My husband doesn't need anything or particularly like anything, which makes buying presents for him a nightmare. I've managed to find some under-the-tree gifts but for the stocking have... a multi-tool pen. And that's it. I might get him a cocktail in a bag, but he'll probably think it's silly.

What are you all getting for the middle-aged, handy, reliable and non-hobbyist men in your lives?

Subscription to Readly. Vast array of magazines you can read using the app. Around £10 a month for tons of mags and newspapers. Fun to have a browse. I often suggest it on these types of threads.

My 25yo DS is a nightmare to buy for and a December birthday ( bad family planning on my part !)

I do buy him pants/sock/lounge wear as he needs new ones ( I buy him a years worth ) and left to him he wouldn't buy them.

Kalamazoo Beard cream from Lush

Guitar picks ( his hobby)

Phone charger cables ( he looses or breaks them)

Sweets /chocolate

And money <<My Precious >>

I always put in a scratchcard and a silly £2 bet on a 100/1 runner in the big boxing day race.

Also for dh's stocking often a book. Sometimes a pair of socks (something he'll wear, not novelty).

A chocolate he likes (he really likes the Irish Dairy Milks you can sometimes pick up in Morrisons)

I am definitely going to do the bet for my dad!! Genius idea! Thanks 🙏🏽

Thank you for all these ideas - some I’ll use (the LEGO set)

My DH’s stocking will be a magazine, sweets, chocolate, hot sauce, biscuits, maybe a beer or coke. Probably a new toothbrush and soap. Most is stuff he buys himself as often as he wants, so it won’t be wasted, and it won’t be as much of a treat as when I was little, but still nice and all things he likes. He makes weirder choices on mine and I’m trying to get him on track but at least he’s trying.

Honestly at this point I’d just be not doing a stocking for him.
The point of them for adults is surely useful or wanted small items but if there’s nothing he’d want or appreciate then he doesn’t need a stocking.
We don’t do them for adults because we have enough ‘stuff’ and don’t want to buy things for the sake of being able to put them in a stocking.

We don’t even give each other presents anymore. And we’ve agreed with grown up children that we aren’t exchanging gifts as well. DH would throw away everything that has been listed above. Grandchildren are teenagers so just want money. All in all, Christmas is very easy.

Irenesortof · 19/10/2025 09:17

If he doesn’t want presents could you not just give him one useful present, eg a jumper he would have bought himself, and no stocking?

teacupzs · 19/10/2025 09:22

I don't like tat & don't see the point of buying stuff that isn't needed or wanted.

DH usually gets

Nice chocolate
Alcohol
moisturiser
shower gel
socks

CryOverSpilledIrnBru · 19/10/2025 09:23

I just wouldn't bother OP. I can guarantee that the anguish and effort from you will equate to barely the mildest thrill on Christmas Day from this grown man.

TaffyandTeenyTaffy · 19/10/2025 09:32

O'keefes hand cream
Chewing gum
Choc covered peanuts/raisins
Choc biscuits / cookies
Bubble bath
Phone case
Batteries
Bottle opener

I'm buying small stocking type presents for my youngest DDs fairly new partner (although he's been known to the family for years, being her sister's best friend). I, however, don't know him extremely well and he's not a 'gifty' type, plus has to travel a lot. So far, he's got
Beard balm
Some nice shower gels
Some miniatures of posh whisky
A good pen
A set of charging cables
Posh chocolate
Some 'unusual' nibbles

I find in these cases consumables are often the way to go, as even if they're not quite bang on as presents, they get eaten or used.

Hedjwitch · 19/10/2025 09:42

For DH
Socks
Pants
Pens
Dark chocolate
Diary
Small gadget or puzzle
Miniature of whisky
Small waxed cheese trickle
Lottery ticket
Toiletries

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 19/10/2025 09:44

A couple of pairs of socks
A big bag of assorted (no peanuts) nuts
A pack of dried mango from Grape Tree
Ditto dried apricots
Ditto their chocolate covered raisins or cranberries

That’s it. No use buying him any toiletries, he’s a creature of habit and bulk buys what he always uses.

Loub1987 · 19/10/2025 10:08

For mine (who also has no hobbies)

Mini whiskey bottles
Kit kat chunky (his favourite)
Nice notebook and pen for work
Socks
Gloves that you can use on a smart phone
Headphones
Bag of peanuts (an in joke!)

All the above he will use so it's not a waste of money which would annoy me!
