Gift for a one month old baby girl?

I feel a bit stuck with ideas as she will only just be one month old at Christmas.

She is close family so I don't mind so much the cost, but one month hardly any toys are suitable and expect they will get the usual lamaze hanging toys and tummy time mats.

Any ideas very gratefully received.

I would ask what they need and look to get something needed in the next year.

or if you want something special a nice snow globe or something?

Thereisnoname · 27/11/2024 18:35

What about a nice first Christmas decoration for the tree. I'd go for non breakable as in a couple of years they may want to hang it up and it gets broken, speaking from experience.
Or a resuable advent calender, my children have a lovely wooden nativity scene where you move the star along each day.

Winterwellies · 27/11/2024 18:36

If the parents like this kind of thing you could get a personalised first Christmas photo frame. If they're more minimalist I'd go for a board book.

A teddy bear with the year on the foot. Disney store do them, or Hamleys.

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 27/11/2024 18:46

John Lewis do the teddy bears too.

tuppence and crumble star wraps are amazing - my 3 lived in theirs!

reluctantbrit · 27/11/2024 18:46

Book with good night stories. We started reading to DD from 4 months onwards.

Ask if they look at anything practical, voucher for a high chair maybe.

Steiff does lovely teddies.

HowManyNsInBrenn · 27/11/2024 18:47

A Maileg Mouse makes a lovely gift, it could be the thing you buy her each year 😊

LittleSparklyStar · 27/11/2024 18:48

A teddy bear with the year on them
a baby’s first Christmas tree decoration
something for when she’s older? A jewellery box or a snow globe or china money box
a voucher to spend on clothes
a photo frame with a space for a photo every month up to a year

Iloveagoodnap · 27/11/2024 18:54

I wouldn't go for a teddy bear. My child is now 7 and we can't move for soft toys - I'm sure that baby will end up with plenty over its childhood.

I would suggest a couple of nice board books that she will grow into. Ones with proper stories like the board book versions of The Gruffalo or similar. Peepo by Allan Ahlberg was a favourite of my daughter's as a toddler.

AppropriateAdult · 27/11/2024 18:58

I'd just get clothes in bigger sizes, to be honest - it's by far the most useful thing for a baby. And maybe a nice ornament if you want to get something Christmassy.

Oodiks · 27/11/2024 18:58

Astrophysics for Babies book!

underhedges · 27/11/2024 19:11

Mine were 3 months and then 3 weeks old for their first Christmas'. Matchstick monkey teethers, sensory toys (egg shaped shakers, rattles...), board books and bath toys were all useful gifts.

Pandasnacks · 27/11/2024 19:21

Teething toy, those ankle and wrist rattles, maybe something for tummy time play? I wouldn't bother with a teddy or anything personally as theyl have loads of those from birth presents and babies don't really play with many of them.

HangingStars · 27/11/2024 19:31

A money box
A plate/bowl set
A star projector for room
a mirror toy for tummy time

and if you want to spend a bit more, maybe some premium bonds?

FriendlyNeighbourhoodAccountant · 27/11/2024 19:31

Wonderbly do personalised books. I like the treasuries, eg "Oliver's Treasury of Nursery Rhymes" or "Helens Treasury of Bedtime Stories."

DoloresOnTheDottedLine · 27/11/2024 20:19

Totter and tumble mat/rug. This is the present I didn’t know I needed! It’s amazing for every stage as a comfy and safe place to put a baby.

psuedocream3 · 28/11/2024 09:44

Thank you for the suggestions all, lots of variety which has given me lots of ideas.

I now have the tuppence and crumble star wrap, matchstick monkey teether set and astrophysics for babies book in my basket.

I'm avoiding soft toys as we are personally over-run with them and I don't want to buy things that will end up a nuisance rather than a help.
