Hi All, would really appreciate some help here.... me male age 55, new girlfriend age 52, background, we have been dating for about 6 months. we are both moderately well-off so don't actually need anything. She loves clothes (think shabby chic), dressing up, jewellery (I am lost here), reading, dining out, cinema... This is our first Christmas together and would like to get a couple of nice presents... please, any ideas ?

I think it’s quite early on for jewellery. I’d probably go for a token gift on the day (book) splurge on an experience dinner out somewhere fancy that you can dress up for.

My husband bought me jewellery for our first. Christmas. We were together 3 months. Absolutely treasure it 17years later. I love stars and he bought me a shooting star pendant with a small diamond.

i’d say if you think she’d like jewellery then get her some bit bit just ‘anything’, something relevant or meaningful.

oh thanks that looks a great link, I will go with the jewellery, any more ideas keep them rolling.. we are going to dance classes together too if that helps, a bit of bling helps with that..

A beautiful scarf.....maybe from Liberty?

FruitPoppet · 27/11/2024 17:08

Perhaps theatre tickets and a booking at a nice resturant for beforehand? and then just some nice things to open on the day; books, candles/soaps/smellies from bespoke makers. Or perhaps if she likes jewelery see if any local places do jewelery making workshops or something similar?

Adatewithmyself · 27/11/2024 17:30

Hmm - not sure what shabby chic clothes are! Do you mean boho/bohemian style?

I agree:

  • you’ll find inspiration in Lliberty’s
  • cashmere socks
  • if she’s stylish and likes dressing up, how about a fedora/trilby hat?
  • cookery workshop? They can be pricey though
  • beautiful candle from The White Company or Diptyque?
  • Theatre/opera tickets
  • if she loves reading/is bookish, sometimes you can get first editions not too expensively for more contemporary authors

FWIW, I am nearly 50 and “shabby chic” and I’d love all these things 😅

Also forgot - silk pillowcase! Very useful

hattie43 · 27/11/2024 17:59

I think a few chosen white company gifts . A beautiful festive candle and some body lotion .

I's very happy with any of these (i am a 53 year old woman, normally more shabby than chic these days ;)

I'm 53 and consider myself quite boho. I Completely agree with @Adatewithmyself and adore the angel wing earrings on the above link too.
My partner bought me jewellery on our first Christmas together. A lovely necklace and matching bracelet in a style I'd commented on someone on TV (paperclip chain). He knows I have a thing for mid century stuff and into cooking so bought me a fabulous 1950s carving fork and carving tray still in original boxes. I love snoopy, but only the original stuff. For my first birthday with him, he bought me an original 70's Snoopy watch from America still in original box, I bloody adore that watch....much more than the expensive Tissot and Tag Hauger ones I have but never wore. I only take this off to shower, bath swim etc and have a reminder set on my phone to wind it every morning. They're all things that he isn't interested in but took the time to find them. Means so much to me. So, perhaps think of things that she's really into that you're not particularly into and find something suitable. I.e my husband and ex partner bought me things that they like eg designer handbags, the other watches etc which aren't really me.
Also I don't know where in the Country you are but if you're buying an experience - I can thoroughly recommend the stay at Marco Pierre Whites Rudloe Arms Hotel near Bath, currently on LivibgSocialApp, with a session at the Bath spa, a visit to Sally Lunn's for a Bath bun and we also did the open top bus tour. Spotting the sights featured in McDonald and Dodds TV series. It's currently £125 a night with dinner and breakfast on LivingSocial app. We spent two nights there recently and it was fabulous. He has amazing taste and his son Luciano was there and offered to take photos of us and was waiting on tables of which there's only about 12. Sorry if you're from Bath and this is irrelevant but we are from London and it was a lovely short getaway for anyone interested. My sister has bought the same for her extremely hard to buy for husband.
