Board game suggestions for teen/adult family

Hi, I followed a thread on here last year that had some brilliant suggestions for board games other than the bog standard stuff , but I can’t find it.
Please can someone link me to it or this can be a new one.
I’m looking for something that would entertain a group age 14+ for 3 plus players, ideally one that doesn’t involve detailed instructions and complex rules.
TIA 🤗

Forgottenmyphone · 26/11/2024 05:27

Blokus or Qwirkle

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 26/11/2024 05:28

I like Azul and Splendor.

Latenightreader · 26/11/2024 05:41

Pandemic (which is cooperative)
carcassonne
blokus
ticket to ride

Amazon have some of them in the Black Friday sale.

LittleRedRidingHoody · 26/11/2024 05:49

I agree with Ticket To Ride and Pandemic - both great options for what you're looking for.

We've recently got into Unlocks, which are basically a card game version of an escape room - the downside is you can really only play each one once, but each box comes with 3 games to play.

Wingspan is the best board game I have and I’ve got a lot. 😁

HowardTJMoon · 26/11/2024 05:50

Herd Mentality is really fun.

DitzyDoes · 26/11/2024 06:07

The really nasty horse racing game is great for older teens and adults and comes out every Christmas!

marriednotdead · 26/11/2024 06:09

My mother is queen of random presents and bought us Jenga Pass. It went down brilliantly with an age range spanning several decades including teens. Can also be played without the passing element if you have little ones or people who are less dexterous.

Underground and Moldova.
Both very popular with the teen and young adult in my house

imip · 26/11/2024 06:11

Dd has just played a game for her 18th with friends and it is called cryptic killers. I think it is 14+ and you can an evidence in a plastic evidence bag and have to work out the murderer. I have just brought a couple more for over the Christmas period. Though I haven’t played it yet, it is well recommended.

I have just brought ticket to ride!

Victoriawould24 · 26/11/2024 09:25

Ace thanks everyone I will enjoy looking them all up later 🤗

Carcassonne, Risk, Settlers of Catan, Articulate

LBOCS2 · 26/11/2024 09:42

Codenames is our go-to at the moment, works perfectly for older kids and you do really need a group to play it (there's also a Duet version that you can play in pairs)

Victoriawould24 · 26/11/2024 14:39

@WaitForTheDungarThankyou I think that might be it 😊

Herd Mentality is really fun.

My 24 year old DD brought this when she and her boyfriend came home for Christmas last year and we played it with them and her 18 year old sister. It was brilliant. I had never played it before but we laughed so much at some of my DH answers. Its a Christmas evening we will never forget. 😂😂

It's a card game not a board game but shout out for Fluxx - there are lots of different themed versions, ranging from Star Trek to Around The World to Avengers to Doctor Who to Anatomy to Pirates. The whole idea of the game is there are basically no rules except you draw a card and play a card each turn, and then do what the cards in play on the table tell you in terms of the aims of the game. So every time you play it, it's different, but you don't have to learn anything in advance. Just do what the cards say. It's very simple to play.

I think anything with some humour.

SnorriTouren · 26/11/2024 22:43

You said 3+ players but if you get 5 or more then I'd highly recommend One Night Ultimate Werewolf. (It does work with 3 but it's nowhere near as good: the more players the better).

It is an absolute classic in our family. Very easy to get the hang of but great fun. It is a social deduction game that leads to some hilarious discussions, and find out how good (or not) your friends and family are at lying!

I agree Pandemic is great - if you're going to play more than a few games with the same group of people then Pandemic Legacy is fun (the game changes as you play, depending on what you do).

Wingspan is great, beautiful artwork. Ditto Cascadia.

Micro Macro is great fun, a cross between Where's Wally and a murder mystery. It's collaborative - you have a big map and clues and you have to scour the map to find evidence to solve murders. There are no rules to learn with that one. You just dive right in.

We like Splendor too - we have the Marvel version. King of Tokyo is also fun and easy to play. I love modern board / card games and could dribble on about them for ages!

@Fuelledbylatte
Can you explain Ticket to Ride?
It gets a lot of love on MN!

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 29/11/2024 09:00

Yatze and rumikub

GrouchyKiwi · 29/11/2024 09:03

I was also going to suggest Codenames and Splendor.

Chameleon is excellent.

INeedNewShoes · 29/11/2024 09:07

We enjoy:

Ticket to Ride
Scotland Yard
Forbidden Island (and the other Forbidden games). These ones are collaborative which can lead to arguing...
