I'm looking for. Laptop and can spend £200. It's for my 11 year old for high school homework and ideally to use with the home 3D printer I am getting for myself (!). Will £200 get me anything or is that just madness to think I can get something for this type of budget. I mean I know I can buy one but will it be crappy ? Is there a non amount to spend for an average pre teen school work user help please you wonderful lot.

Another vote for a Chromebook. Both my (now older) kids had Chromebooks during their school years. Their school used Google classroom so a Chromebook was supportive of that product. Antivirus is built in too. The user experience is a bit different to a Windows PC, but not massively so. Virtually all functionality and data is in the cloud so you need robust wifi. I also have a Chromebook and it is useless when the wifi is unavailable, but I think it is a superb, cheap bit of kit, and will never go back to Windows or Mac. BTW, Now the kids are older and at Uni they have both gone back to Windows PCs as that is more compatible with their Uni products and software, but that is a decision you might need to worry about for 7 years!

Buy one secondhand? Chromebooks are so limited in functonality...

@Rightsraptor I hope you won't mind me asking, if you were to replace it with a similar updated version, where would you buy it from?
I have 2 Macs which I use extensively but I'd quite like a decent portable compatible alternative which I could also sync with everything Apple which I use. Not the latest model but probably 1 year old would be the oldest I'd consider for longevity of operating system upgrades.

I got this from stone refurb in 2022. It plays Minecraft etc (but not Fortnite!) and handles Netflix and homework to A-level
