Are these prices reasonable

I’m planning to have a small stall selling hot drinks and snacks at the school’s Christmas Fair. The location is the South of England, mixed incomes and diverse.

Tea or Coffee - £1.50
Snacks (e.g crisps) - £1
Can drinks - £1

Would it be worth also selling anything else e.g. mince pies? Not sure how much people like these.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Just make your life easier and make everything £1.

Fireworknight · 24/11/2024 18:59

Those prices seem fair to me.

wishingchair1 · 24/11/2024 18:59

I'd be expecting hot chocolate and some festive treats. Prices for a instant tea/ coffee seem high and I would walk past. However maybe that is your area. Squirty cream and mini marshmallows would add onto your stall.

ByRoseMentor · 24/11/2024 19:01

Yep cans of drink and crisps sounds v unchristmassy / boring tbh

Alwaystired2023 · 24/11/2024 19:01

Yes looks very reasonable - cheap compared to a cafe but about right for a fare - yes agree you should have mince pies or mini Yule logs something like that

mondaytosunday · 24/11/2024 19:25

The coffee and tea are the cheapest for you so I'd put £1 on everything.

AllHisCaterpillarFriends · 24/11/2024 19:27

£2 everything. South of England, prices are high. People won't not buy because it is £2

Littletreefrog · 24/11/2024 19:34

I know everyone in the south is rich (joke don't jump on me) but will people really pay £2 for a packet of crisps? Even if they will that's no need to fleece them. I assume this is fundraising and not for personal profit.

Elbone · 24/11/2024 19:45

I’m in Yorkshire and even I think £1 is very reasonable 😉

Arlanymor · 24/11/2024 19:46

Not sure why pop would be cheaper than tea/coffee, that doesn’t make sense. Are you seeking to make a profit or do you just want to break even?

Arlanymor · 24/11/2024 19:47

Additional ideas - hot chocolate, mince pies and mini gingerbread men.

HildaHosmede · 24/11/2024 19:54

We always have mince pies at our Xmas school fair and they always sell out. Plus a generic option of cookie or brownie for those that don't like mince pies.

Hot chocolate, tea, coffee, cans and squash always sell well. The only monumental dud one year was mulled wine (non alcoholic). Apparently not many people like it - or not enough to drink a non alcoholic version anyway 😂

Julie168 · 24/11/2024 19:54

Prices sound fine. I would definitely have mince pies as there's nothing for adults to munch on otherwise. You could do instant hot chocolate with marshmallows for £2.

Holiday24 · 24/11/2024 20:02

Definitely hot chocolate and mince pies! Both would be expected at a Christmas event.

Naomi370 · 24/11/2024 20:13

@Arlanymor I’d like to make a profit and want to ensure the prices are reasonable too.

Are you sure that the school won't be running a similar stall at the Christmas fair? Refreshments are usually very much part of the core PTA offer.

Naomi370 · 24/11/2024 20:17

@WhitbyBee there’s no PTA at the school and I’ve checked that there won’t be a similar stall.

Ok fair play, so £1.50 for everything basic. Then if there is a ‘more’ element - e.g. hot chocolate with all the embellishments, then add an extra 50p.

Will people be aware this is a for personal profit stall? I would pay over the odds for a can of pop at a school fair if I thought the funds were going to the school. If I knew it was for personal profit I would spend my money on something else.

Given this is not a PTA/fundraising stall I think you are going to have to do something a little more adventurous than tea/coffee, pop and crisps. I think definitely hot chocolate, mince pies etc

WhitbyBee · 24/11/2024 20:23

Are you using the school kitchen?
How will you make coffee?

Naomi370 · 24/11/2024 20:24

@WhitbyBee yes they will be aware it’s for personal profit as there will be other stalls selling craft items, Christmas presents etc. Thanks for the ideas!

I'd do a drink (hot or cold) + mince pie / apple pie £1.50.

Do you have food hygiene or similar if required and insurance incase someone spills it on themselves?

Littletreefrog · 24/11/2024 20:26

I'm not sure that will make them aware to be honest. Most school fares I have been to there are private vendors there which are obvious due to their banners etc but the "refreshments" especially if basic tuck shop type stuff is always for school fundraising.

Naomi370 · 24/11/2024 20:26

@WhitbyBee I have a water urn and it will be instant coffee granules.

What is the point of a Christmas fair if the school aren’t getting the profits ?
