3 year old girl present ideas

Hi, was wondering if anyone can help with present ideas for my 3 year old girl.

She absolutely loves 'role play' type stuff for example her current favourite thing to do is 'pack bags' and take her stuffed toys on holiday or to nursery etc etc. Her toys are very rarely used for their actual purpose eg she'll pack magnatiles and the ice cream toys from her ice cream parlour into the bag but pretend they are something else very specific eg. suncream or clothes 😂! I don't want to spend loads on toys that she will glance at and not be fussed. Eg. she used to love dolls so last year we bought her a dolls house and sylvanian families set both of which are basically now untouched ornaments in her room.

She likes arts and crafts, baking, reading etc so that side of things is sorted with a trip to Hobbycraft and The Works.

But toys wise what to get? I did a big cull recently so she doesn't actually have that much anymore but then I feel like maybe that's why she's only playing very specific things at the moment and I need to broaden her imagination?

When I ask her she says something random like makeup (because she watches me do mine). She loves Trolls and Disney princess stuff so was thinking toys related to that but last year she was obsessed with Frozen yet barely played with the Elsa doll we got her! It feels like anything we've ever bought her that we think she'd love she's ended up not being fussed. She loves us to read to her endlessly yet when we got her a Yoto she again wasn't that interested.

She has all the usual 'big' things like scooter, balance bike etc.

Any ideas? Feel like I need some outside inspiration.

Doctor's kit or vet kit? Pretend hairdressing kit? How is her dressing up collection more generally? Particularly the more open-ended sort of stuff, so not 'an Elsa costume', but skirts, scarves, cape, etc. that can be combined in different ways to become different things?

Yuckyyuckyuckity · 23/11/2024 22:46

Ahhhh doctors kit yes! Funnily enough I did have this in mind a few weeks ago but forgot so thanks for the reminder.

Dressing up stuff could definitely be added to so good shout again.

Yes I guess open ended stuff must be what I'm after but I think the neurotic neat freak in me doesn't want to end up with a pile of random looking shit 😂 I'll just have to suck it up I guess! Her imagination is absolutely brilliant so I really want to help enhance that.

Fingers puppets from Ikea? Great for role play, but you may have to watch many many ‘shows’😉!

(Other finger puppets are available…😉)

(Themed) Lego/playmobile

simple games, uno, themed dominoes, dobble?

glow in the dark unicorn hoodie/fleece blanket

Disney/frozen themed lip/nail/bath stuff

cinema trip to see Paddington….then she’s bound to want Paddington toy/other stuff for Christmas.

usb bed side lamp/projection lamp

swimming stuff

seeds for her plot in the garden

I think big hits for dd last year at 3 were tonies stories, paw patrol dobble, and these biscuits for role play

Mellisa & Doug biscuits

she also loves making “beds” for her various soft toys, and making extensive doctor/ school / travel plans for them, so any kit for this helps a lot

Toddler tea/picnic/cook set for pretend parties?

it’s always so much easier to think of ides for others😀.

Polly pockets

Does she have a dolls’ house? Our daughter then son both loved it from 3 to around 8 or 9.

I have a bag packer too. I think it's part of a play schema.

She likes Duplo and magnatiles although they're more often to be found representing 'stuff' in one of her bags than a tally being used for building.

If she likes packing bags....maybe just get her some bags?! A backpack, a bumbag, a coin purse, a wallet, a suitcase on wheels...make her dreams come true 😂

We also have a cash register and toy money. The shop gets used occasionally, but the money is always included in her packing. We have plastic food (and kitchen) again not often used as intended, but she always packs her snacks in her various bags.

She also loves a blanket for similar imaginative play.

Also, join the Yoto club. It’s phenomenal. My kids all love theirs and I can safely say they’re the best things I’ve ever bought for them.
