Charm bracelet?

13-year-old DD loves the idea of a Pandora charm bracelet. But...so SO expensive, even on the BlackFriday discount - she's 13, by the time you add a few charms its over £200 on an easy-to-loose jewellery item. Seems crazy. Are there other brands you'd recommend? Or do I just say NO to the overpriced brand because second best will never be what she wants?
We can afford it, but just seems like a waste.

Honestly if you think your DD will love it and look after it I’d get it. They often do a deal with the bracelet + one charm for £99. You don’t have to buy loads of charms this Christmas, you can add to it on birthdays, graduations etc.

Floralnomad · 23/11/2024 19:22

If she wants Pandora and you can afford it I’d get it , a different one might not be appealing to her . My daughter had a Thomas Sabo one at that sort of age but that’s likely just as expensive , she didn’t wear it much .

wintersgold · 23/11/2024 19:24

IMO it's not a waste. Pandora bracelets are pretty good quality and worth it for the price, if that's what your DD wants and you can afford it then I can't imagine why you would refuse to get it for her out of principle

SprinkleCake · 23/11/2024 19:26

Pandora is affordable. My daughter got hers when she was 10 and we add to it each birthday and Christmas. She’s 15 now and has a special charm to remember so many occasions.

DeliciousApples · 23/11/2024 19:31

It's easy to buy Chen's in the future so it's actually a good gift.

You can get dupes or second hand ones on eBay.

Littlemissgobby · 23/11/2024 19:32

Gnoce are very similar they have a deal on if you look on website just had a look at Argos and there are some good charm bracelets similar to Pandora but cheaper

IggyAce · 23/11/2024 19:34

My dd has a Pandora and Nomination, the nomination is harder to lose and has some lovely charm options.

Strawberrycheesecake7 · 23/11/2024 19:36

You don’t need to start off with multiple charms if it’s too expensive. When I was around that age I received my Pandora bracelet on its own and I was more than happy with that. I’ve added charms to it over the years and now have quite a lot.

PatChaunceysFruitCake · 23/11/2024 19:47

Honestly, I'd get the Pandora if you can afford it. My 13yo DD got one for her birthday and loves it. I got two charms with it and have another put my for Christmas.

You can add to it over time.

Where we live they all seem to have them so I'm not sure anything similar but not the same would cut it?

Saz12 · 23/11/2024 19:47

It's not really out of principle that I'm considering a cheaper alternative. I don't know, I find wearing special jewellery quite stressful.

Usually lots for sale on Vinted

Pineapplewaves · 23/11/2024 20:05

I would recommend that you get one of the Pandora safety chains for it, it stops the charms coming off every time you undo it. I would get the bracelet, a safety chain and one or two charms. Other relatives can add to it or she can get more on future birthdays and Christmas's if she still wears it.

HeidiWhole · 23/11/2024 20:07

Gnoce keeps popping up on my feeds - the charms fit the Pandora bracelets which would make it a cheaper alternative. They do their own bracelets too

ABirdsEyeView · 23/11/2024 21:09

I'd buy the brand she wants. If all her friends have Pandora and that's what's fashionable amongst her mates, she won't want a cheaper brand, even if it's better.

rainbowunicorn · 23/11/2024 21:32

Pandora is not expensive unless you are planning on loading it with charms all.at once. The point of a charm bracelet is to add to it over the years for memorable occasions. The basic silver bracelet is £60 and charms range from £20 upwards.

Saz12 · 24/11/2024 11:58

But in our house £100+ for a bracelet with a couple of charms is expensive. Usually spend around £200 on her gifts, unless there's a v expensive unavoidable like iPad etc.

It’s 30% off at Pandora just by signing up for Black Friday plus there is cash back on all the usual sites. You’ll get a bracelet and a charm for under £100. Donny get her something else if it’s Pandora that’s in through her circle, get Pandora.

CandlesOrangesRedribbon · 24/11/2024 13:19

It is expensive and what's good quality in jewellery, surely it's real gold or silver? Are Pandora real mate la

Cherryrainbow · 24/11/2024 13:45

I swear by gnoce. They often have deals of buy 2 charms, get 2 more charms and the bracelet for free too and they come in nice gift boxes x

Showerflowers · 24/11/2024 15:10

I bought the bracelet new from Pandora and then got some charms off Vinted for very good prices. Just beware the fakes

ChristmasIsComing2024 · 25/11/2024 09:26

I think I got my Pandora bracelet for my 18th birthday with a charm and have since been gifted 4 more and chose 2 myself. I bought myself a charm from Etsy with my little ones hand and footprints on as well which obviously isn’t Pandora but it fits on. They get dirty really quickly though and I don’t even wear it very often and the cleaning stuff they sell doesn’t work 😫

Manchesterbythesea · 25/11/2024 09:28

I would get it for her. I think they do a bracelet & 2 charms on offer. Add to it on other occasions. My dd16 loves hers.

GettingStuffed · 25/11/2024 12:25

I think your DD needs to be told the value of money. Let her know that Pandora is expensive so she's not going to get a full charm bracelet, show her similar ones that are cheaper and let her decide.

This is what i did but my daughter was only 11 at the time (p7 & had wanted for a year) she is 14 now still wears it and has added some charms herself with birthday money or i’ve bought some at christmas. If she is careful and wants it i would get it as a starter. i’ve just spent over £70 on a nomination bracelet with a couple of charms as thats this years “in” thing amongst her group and it looks really cheap & not worth the money so in comparison pandora isn’t that bad

My other daughter has no interest in jewellery thankfully!
