I’d love to get some ideas for a Christmas breakfast that I can prepare the day/evening before. I’ve seen lots of ideas for sweet pastries, French toast etc but I don’t want lots of sugar for breakfast (it makes me feel sick and jittery!). DH hates all types of egg so frittata, scrambled eggs etc are out too. DS is 6 but will eat anything!

Does anyone have a recipes or suggestions for savoury breakfast, preferably something that can be prepared ahead of time?

I like to give everyone a hearty breakfast with protein. I won’t feed them again until Xmas lunch much latter. Between the meals they can subsist on chocolate!

For a crowd, a strata works well.

I’m with @Talipesmum we have our usual porridge for breakfast but with fancier juice and berries.
How on earth people are managing pork pies/salmon blinis/ bacon butties for breakfast and then full Christmas dinner with all starters/ trimmings and puddings accompanied by Prosecco, wine and Bayleys ????

Chorizo cubes and new potatoes sliced into thin discs. Fry, no need to parboil.

If feeling fancy, subs some sweet potato in with the potato. Scatter fresh parsley.

You can crack an egg on top for those who do like egg, leave it out for dh.

I ask the same about people who have starters which are usually eaten directly before the meal, not several hours like a bacon butty!

We don't eat our main meal til late afternoon., so everyone is hungry again. We don't have starters because we really have 'all the trimmings' so wouldn't want to be half full with a starter. We then have a break before the puddings so we can make the most of them too.

Salmon on bagel just required assembly which takes <5 mins.

Bacon butty… it’s just grilling some bacon isn’t it.

Both easy enough!

We don't have starters either. Christmas Dinner is massive!

We have breakfast, then Christmas dinner around 2pm and a break so dessert around 4pm. Then from around 8pm the snacks come out! 😀

It’s not about time of preparation at all, it’s about lots of calorific, high in salt and sugar food in one single day plus alcohol.

Having a nice breakfast on once a year on Christmas Day is hardly the cause of the obesity epidemic.

I can’t imagine anything more miserable
than porridge on Christmas morning, and I really like porridge generally.

It’s breakfast, you might be eating it 8 hours before the Christmas lunch!

We have a fairly minimal breakfast on Xmas day as so much is eaten later and there is so much cooking to be done. Usually just croissants (plain for me, chocolate for DC), orange juice and coffee.

It depends on your set up. If the kids up at 5/6am, you can easily manage a bacon butty at 7am and still be hungry for lunch at lunchtime. Later eaters, even more so.

Now the child has to be woken at 9am as I'm too excited to wait much longer, so it's a a relaxed, quiet breakfast for us about 8am, a quick pain au choc for her, and lunch at 2pm...

Pistolpunk · 26/11/2024 18:21

I just put out croissants, pop tarts, yogurts and fruit and it's easy and quick. Last year I did a pineapple tree so stuck strawberries, grapes and tangerines on it and we ate the pineapple afterwards
