Lego for 12 year old

My 12 year old nephew has asked for Lego for Christmas. We'd like to spend £40 on him but I can't see any kits that are difficult enough for him at that price point
Any ideas?

How about Lego technic?? They have a lot of good cars to build. They also do the icons range which has some lovely buildings

Architecture sets and botanics also good. May say 18+ but that's interest rather than difficulty.

The wall art macaws are about £45 , you may get them cheaper in a sale . They say 18+ but it’s not a difficult build and they are really effective on a wall . The mini city skylines are also just over the £40 mark and they are nice .

Thanks all, I think the buildings or cars are the way to go
Just need to find some black Friday deals!

The Lego Ideas range or any of the 18+ sets would be good. They do some decent Star Wars model and helmet sets for around that price.

If he’s into Marvel, they do Venomised Groot figure 76249 which looks pretty cool as a display piece. They also do a dancing Groot 76297 for £31

There are a few Harry Potter sets but they are a bit smaller at that price (Tri Wizard lake one is in that price but very small).

The best value for size sets I think are the Lego City sets. If he likes trains, cars, space, boats or event the Stuntz range then you might get something bigger for your money buying one of those.

If he’s also into gaming they have the City Gaming E-sports tournament truck set 60388 on Amazon for £35.

Smyths, Amazon and Argos tend to have good deals on sets.

The Lego 76964 Mercedes 2 car set looks amazing. I picked it up today for £30 on Amazon & think Asda still have it for the same price.

I saw some really good kits in B&M this week

@Trufflebrie is that the right number? Or is it the 76924?

My 12 yo DS loves Lego. He can do the 18 plus ones no problem and I think most 12 year olds could too. He likes the cars and the architecture ones. Hes desperate for an insanely expensive bat man one so he’s saving his money for that (think it’ll take a while!) 😂

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 21/11/2024 21:56

Plenty in that price range. My 12 year old loves expensive display sets but also loves the botanical range and would love the plum blossom for Christmas. He got Tiny Plants for his birthday which is £35 at Smyths.

sorry - you’re correct! I’ve bought it for my ten year old nephew, but think it would even be great for an adult.

Lego technic earth and moon. When it's built it rotates and there's a lot of difficult connections

mamaduckbone · 21/11/2024 22:15

My son loved the Speed Champions sets at that age - limited edition sports cars. They do some bigger sets for about the price you are looking for.

Jukeboxjive · 21/11/2024 22:38

What about marvel lego

PickAChew · 21/11/2024 22:44

John Lewis have black Friday deals on lego, too.

The lego Christmas tree is about £40 and a fun build.
