Lower budget parents of TEENAGERS - what are you buying?

There's another similar thread running but virtually no suggestions for teenagers who are past the age of toys & games. So, anyone looking to spend c.£100-£150 on your teenager, what are you buying? I have boys 15-19 & so far there's talk of a £110 pair of trainers, aftershave (as seen on Tiktok for £85😮) & some wildly expensive headphones.

I posted on the other thread as well but will put here too!

DS2 (15) and DD (17) budget around £150
DS1 (22) working but living at home, budget around £100

DS2:
GoCube edge (on an Amazon deal with £20 off)
Ticket to see Chris Hadfield next year
Gaming console history book
(Still have around £30 to go)

DD:
Hair curler/waver set
Fleecy hoodie
Positivity journal
(£20 to go, no ideas!)

DS1:
Coffee rum
Waterproof socks
Probably finish up with vinyl and/or books

Not sure but it is great.

Usually a new pair of trainers, decent brand clothes sourced from vinted, rare/vintage football tops.
Its quite hard for older teenage boys.

VeruccaSalty · 19/11/2024 10:48

Travel mug, ramen bowl and noodles, crimpet, oodie (classics are £26 at the mo), graphic novels/manga, Starbucks voucher. Zavvi often have good flash sales on movie TV shirts.

Moonlightstars · 19/11/2024 10:52

Eek my budget is even less!

3 teens
A mix of
second hand guitar
Football top from vinted
Running shoes
Xbox game
A book each
Usually a board game to share

Tbh they already have loads of stuff so don't want for much

shellyleppard · 19/11/2024 10:55

Try cut price Barry's..... he's got some mens aftershave sets for £15 . I have two teenagers and a low budget. World of books is good if they love reading. So far they have pyjamas, books , chocolates, socks, smelly sets, and I managed to get a Nintendo switch second hand for £150 . Not too bad a haul!!! Will put some money in a card each if I have any spare

shellyleppard · 19/11/2024 10:57

Also try m and m clothing..... they do all the Trendy stuff just a lot cheaper x

Xiaoxiong · 19/11/2024 10:57

DS1: book about organised crime in the Balkans, book about the Beatles, a warm fluffy throw for his bed, a turntable and records

DS2: the next few books in the "one of us" series, mini basketball hoop and ball, new stadium trousers for rugby, LED strips for his room, a new dressing gown

For both together, a ramen bowl set with a Japanese cookbook, a board game (probably Dune:Imperium),

Xiaoxiong · 19/11/2024 11:03

(Our budget is around the £150 mark as well, the turntable we're eyeing is around £90 with built-in speakers so we don't need a lot of other expensive bits to let him play records)

I really don't like a mountain of presents under the tree so I try and keep ours to 3-4 things total as they get so much from family as well.

lechatnoir · 19/11/2024 12:55

Thanks some great ideas here. Will check out the Oodies thanks @VeruccaSalty

Good shout for ramen bowls as they all seem to eat vast amounts of noodles 😆 I'm also eyeing up a football shirt on Vinted that's BNWT (they buy their own stuff 2nd hand but I prefer to get them 'new' stuff for gifts and hadn't realised quite how much BNWT there is on there!)

Both our teens have asked for sports equipment, so nice and easy this year! it's not too pricey either. Weights etc for one and golf stuff for the other (but he's happy with 2nd hand)

It ours want branded things then we will pay the base price for things they need and the "brand" premium is a gift or they pay with with pocket money. (So if they need trainers then the difference between say £50 trainers and the brand cost is their gift/for them to fund)

SweetSakura · 19/11/2024 13:41

Cheap posters for their room have been a good success recently and make a nice parcel whether rolled up or framed

Other quirky requests /hits

  • hot water bottles
  • neon lights
  • cushions
  • activity vouchers for karting etc (often they do black Friday offers)

DS has just had his birthday, so he / I have no ideas left for Xmas!

For his birthday he had:
Noise cancelling headphones
Noodle bowl & chopsticks
Several different types of instant ramen - quite cheap but in a nice big box
Band t-shirt
CD, book

DragonmotherKhaleesi · 19/11/2024 13:59

I'm following for ideas for my 15 & 16 year old boys.
Where are you getting the noodle stuff from? I think they would like those!
So far I've got socks and lynx sets!

MissyB1 · 19/11/2024 14:12

I was hoping to get ds a subway gift card (that's where he and his mates always go), but it doesn't look like it's possible - unless you are in America.

Normallynumb · 19/11/2024 14:29

Oodies are currently £29 and lovely quality I bought my DS one last year
Others Fragrances?
Airtags/ equivalent

JessicaPeach · 19/11/2024 14:33

@BearSoFair that GoCube looks great! It's £64 at the moment, does it go much lower price wise? I've put one in my basket to monitor!
