How much are you spending on your DC this Christmas?

What's your average amount you spend?
Has this increased or decreased in recent years?
What's their main gift?
What are they getting in their stocking?

My DS4 is getting a WWE cage for his Christmas this year. I think we've spent around £220 which is way more than I planned but I started shopping early and I've never stopped....
My DD3m is getting 2 small toys purely so my son doesn't ask why she was bad and Santa didn't come to her!

DD4 used to have a HUGE stocking. I felt I spent so much trying to fill it so this year I have bought a very modest stocking which I plan to fill with useful bits and peices.
I have: a toothbrush, superhero bubble bath, socks & underwear, a water bottle, some crayons, a bath bomb, a hot wheels & some stickers

About £250 per child maybe, and then stocking etc on top which is probably about another £50/60. In all honesty, I don't ever add it up. I love Christmas, I love present giving and try not to buy tat so I am happy with what I spend.

Oreyt · 18/11/2024 19:51

Plan was £300 each but it's got to about £550 each!!!

Oreyt · 18/11/2024 19:52

Plus 2 advents each £50 and £22

ilikeeggs · 18/11/2024 20:06

I’ll probably spend £150 on my 4 year old and £200 on my 11 year old and another £20ish each on stockings

NamelessNinja · 18/11/2024 20:16

Around £150 on DS7 and DD4 each and about £20 on the baby. I think will seem like a good sized pile of presents although DS's will be smaller because of the nature of his gifts, e.g. switch game. Have bought when things have been on offer throughout the year.

Positivenancy · 18/11/2024 20:18

I’ve spent approx 250 on each of them.Would be a lot more if I had to pay for my DS’s PlayStation!!

Isitfridayyetsophie · 18/11/2024 20:30

I have a 3 year old son and we’re on about £400 so far, no real budget but everything just seems to cost a lot.

I’ve got him some marble run magnatile things, they’re £80. Some brio, each add on seems to be £30-40. Yoto player £70 on offer. Stocking is just small bits but things like bubble bath still cost at least £5! It’s adding up very quickly

Mediocrates · 18/11/2024 20:32

Mine (21, 16, 12) will get £200 each including their stocking. They'll get the same again from their dad. With each passing year I become more and more conscious that DH and I spend way less than most people! (We have an advent box with a book, a jigsaw, a board game, and pyjamas in it, and a Christmas Eve box too with a book and chocolate each, plus some small - really tiny - advent gifts so we do spend more on them over the month)

StrawberryWater · 18/11/2024 20:39

We've spend around £550 in total as we got DS a laptop. I wouldn't normally spend so much on him (average spend is around £150-200) but he needs the laptop as he starts secondary school next year and also he doesn't have anyone else buying for him (his aunt and grandmother might give him a tenner but that's it). Plus it'll be more of a family laptop when he's not using it.

He's also getting a gaming chair and a desk but those were free (I product test so they didn't cost me a penny).

HerbertVonDoodlebug · 18/11/2024 20:47

This year, about £200 each for teens 15 and 17. This is not as much as some years as this year they have no need / desire for expensive tech gifts. DS1 main gift is a custom illustration for his room and DS2 is a YouTube Premium subscription!

Stocking contents are mainly food! I am quite glad to be past the plastic tat years tbh.

bluebee17 · 18/11/2024 20:52

DD6 around £400

SmellyNelliey · 18/11/2024 20:56

ive 4 children 10,8,6,5 i spend 500pound each.

LunarLanding · 18/11/2024 21:00

£50. We have a toddler DC. DC will receive gifts from in-laws and my family. When DC is older I think the budget will be much higher because it’ll be about all the tech-y stuff!

ladyvimes · 18/11/2024 21:04

Usually about £200 each but we’re planning on getting a PS5 (we’ll all play on it) this year so will get them a couple of smaller things to unwrap.

MerryChristmasYaFilthyAnimals · 18/11/2024 21:06

DD11 - About £500. But that's large presents. I'm splitting the cost of a £700 laptop with her dad. So £350 on that. She's had a white fox tracksuit she wanted at £85. And then a few bits and pieces of skincare and sprays etc.
So not lots of smaller bits, but a few key presents that she really wants.

OatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 18/11/2024 21:07

Teen DD I am mortified to say over £1k but that includes a new iphone.
Adult DC’s £400 each.
The above includes stockings.

MessyNeate · 18/11/2024 21:08

Too much! Everything is so expensive these days!

DS (17) has a block of driving lessons £340 his dad is paying for the theory side (think he got the better deal 😂
Liverpool top £100
Nike socks
After shave
2 x t shirts

DS (13)

Airforce 1's (£110)
Football boots £70
Football £30
Liverpool top 100
Nike socks
Aftershave

Doesn't seem like much but it's a lot

My grandson is having a new tablet which will be about £100.

I do share the load with DH thankfully

tattiescone10 · 18/11/2024 21:14

Love hearing all your bits and pieces! I love spoiling mine at Christmas. I always woke up to a big pile and Christmas was always more of a big deal than birthdays which would be 3/4 small gifts so I wanted to keep that up for my children.
I'm 30 next year and my mum still gives me a Christmas Eve box, a stocking and a Santa sack of gifts. There's never been a present from my mum and dad in 30 years, it's all Santa and my mum would never have it be said Santa isn't real! 🤣

Those who do a Christmas Eve/December box what do you put in yours?
I normally give my son a Christmas activity pack from home bargains at the beginning of the month with his advent along with a Santa letter writing kit.

Christmas Eve box:
New pjs
His stocking (reused annually)
A Christmas Eve book (same book reused annually)
A nice list medal (reused annually)
A chocolate/sweet of some sort
Hot chocolate (and mug this year too that I was gifted that Xmas but who wants to use a Xmas mug on 26th dec?!)
Reindeer food
Bath bomb for a Christmas Eve bath

I'm also adding in a festive baking kit from asda which I saw someone else say they did which I thought was a good idea!
