Arts and Crafts suggestions 13YO

Hello all!

We have picked up a Christmas tag from our local charity to buy a gift for someone (similar to dunelm delivering joy scheme) and would be grateful for any help from those that have/buy for teens!

The tags says "arts and crafts for 13YO: unisex" and the budget is around £25. I've heard lots of talk about Posca pens but that's my only idea so far!

Thanks in advance!!

Needle felting, knitting, crochet, lino cutting, decent watercolour set and paper. Graphic drawing pens. At this age it's perhaps slightly more about a better quality of product.

My tween likes diamond painting and has just completed one of the London skyline and just about to start one of an elephant.

A punch needle kit, they're very effective and no previous skills are needed.

If I was to a re each this is it just diamond painting or is there a specific term or link to it so I can see what it is.

Poscas are great and usually too expensive for anything other than Christmas gifts. You can use them on a lot of surfaces. My tween keeps hers under lock and key! Hot glue gun is a must-have, with glue refills. Things that can be used in a variety of ways rather than specific kits that need pricey refills. Little crafty bits from The Range cost pennies (polystyrene shapes to draw on, tiny clothes pegs, you know the sort of thing). Air-drying clay and carving tools. Decent quality water-colour pencils are also good, and do double-duty. Some metallic Sharpies. Home Bargains often sells them cheap🙂

@hollyblueivy Just Google for diamond painting kits or diamond art. It's not a specific brand.

Lovecrafts have lots of embroidery kits for the £15-20 mark that would be good for a confident teen /tween.

Basically get a kit that has all the equipment included. If their family is in dire straits you can't guarantee they will have resources to go out and buy additional threads, wool etc.

My 12 yr old has just got into alcohol markers. Ohuhu brand have a good reputation although she has Creativ. They are really good to draw and blend with.

They do however tend to go through the paper and mark anything underneath, so perhaps give some sort of protective mat alongside!

minipie · 18/11/2024 14:33

But yes Posca pens is also a good shout

I would say that pens & paper is more safely unisex than some of the above (apologies for stereotyping)

A kit to make a stuffed teddy - then they can keep it as a little friend?

Just googled and found this bear which looks pretty cool
