My Dad is the hardest person to buy for, because frankly he is a boring old man.

Doesn't drink
Not interested in food
Doesn't really have a sense of humour
Lives alone with his dog

Likes motorbikes (but can't ride anymore) and I have previously bought him books about his favourite bikes.

Likes cars, jaguar specifically and I have previously bought him books on this.

His life revolves around smoking, whinging about his council house, whinging some more. He does read but he buys himself books by the bucket load and I want something he can unwrap so was trying to avoid the amazon voucher.

I just want a couple of bits, I'm getting him a book on the Tower of London but that's all I have so far..

Mine has requested a specific type of slippers Grin. I usually buy him a "coffee table" book with big photos in about anything with a piston or engine in it. He likes anything powered by steam, oil or electric since the Industrial Revolution.

If your Dad's moaning a lot get him a box set of One Foot in the Grave.

If he goes outside to smoke, fur lined crocs to keep by the back door.

Latenightreader · 16/11/2024 13:44

Mine is grumpy too... I bought him a meccano set one year, and a rolife model of Tower Bridge was an unexpected hit. Cushion with a picture of his dog on it?

Last year I decided I wasn't going to worry about it as he goes on about hating Christmas and gave me two presents I had given him years before (I don't think he realised they were from me, I was really upset). I'm going to take him and my daughter on a trip somewhere this year - steam train probably.

A funky ashtray.

One those ubiquitous French ones that you push down. With a load of duty free fags.

Flubadubba · 16/11/2024 15:34

Has he got an Oodie? That went well.dawn for my dad (v similar)'s birthday.

Mine isn't grumpy- just has many of the hallmarks of being autistic (which he won't look into, despite their GP suggesting it) and has been mothered by my mum since they were mid-teens.

Absolutely loads of ideas on the Chelsea website, from keys rings mugs to personalised shirts. How about a hamper based around a Chelsea mug and a jar of Nescafé. Add in a Christmas cake, some dog treats and some nuts and your done.

Oooh, I like this idea! I might even get a grunt of approval on this!

I did consider an oodie, given he lost his winter fuel allowance thingy, but not sure he would wear it?? I did buy some recently as they had their buy 6 deal and I had only assigned gifting of them to 5 of us so could potentially give him one?

You know what's funny about this year, it'll be tye first Christmas my parents have spent together since they divorced in 1993!!

My dad is recently widowed (hence coming to mine) and my Mum spends every other xmas with me. Should be interesting!

This year I'm struggling with ideas, but last year my Dad absolutely loved a woolly beanie hat with a rechargeable led light in it, I got from Amazon. He wears it loads for winter walks and popping down the garden at night. Made his Christmas apparently 😃

caringcarer · 16/11/2024 16:58

You can get nice Ferrari key rings for keeping house and car keys on.

A kindle.

If you have a photo of his dog you can get it put on to a coffee mug/table mats/coasters.

A Grinch Xmas T shirt/socks.

If he has a coffee maker some nice coffee beans.

Minihero · 16/11/2024 18:58

A pair of Crocs. Perfect to throw on to go and water the greenhouse and they'll be comfy for his feet which he often struggles with. He's 79 though.

LadyGabriella · 16/11/2024 18:59

Thick slipper socks.

wlv12 · 16/11/2024 19:41

My dad is 77 and I’ve bought him theatre tickets for the only
fools and horses musical with VIP tickets for the bar.
He’s usually so hard to buy for!

@MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel also have a look at the FOCO site and search for Chelsea. Everything from mugs to slippers, pjs and gnomes!
www.FOCO.com tried to edit it to get to uk site, just be sure to click uk on the first page

Rocknrollstar · 16/11/2024 23:08

It sounds to ma as if a weather station would be ideal.

NotMeekNotObedient · 16/11/2024 23:43

I'm getting mine:
Chocolates
A garden kneeler (his request)
Bird Bingo Game (to play at Xmas)
Slippers (every year!)
Gardeners hand wash/cream - more for me when I visit 😂. A nail brush.
Table saver - he's got a new dining table and currently protecting it with a board 😂

I always ask what he wants too!

CookiePookie · 16/11/2024 23:53

A Chelsea fleece blanket or oodie type wearable blanket? Box set from an era he enjoys? A newspaper from the year he was born?
