What are your favourite non-tree decorations...

...and where did you get them from? Or how did you make them? Or what are you lusting after?

I'm talking garlands, wreaths, little ornaments and trinkets, anything!

We don't have anything in that vein and I'd love some ideas for where to shop, what to make and what's nice to have in the house in December.

To contribute myself...

  • I'm wondering if some of these would look nice wound in and out of the bannisters on the stairs.
  • I'm thinking of having a go at making my own wreath...or else buying one from Bloom and Wild - I like the idea of one made from real foliage.
  • We have a cute little Alessi musical angel figurine and I'd like to build up more a collection, maybe the nativity figures.
  • I've previously made dried orange and lemon slices and had them in bowls with cinnamon sticks and star anise - will make a fresh batch this year.
  • Etsy seems to be full of cute little felted garlands but I'm overwhelmed by choice!

Head to your poshest local garden centre - they will be bursting at the seams with overpriced but delightful trinkets

90% of my tree decorations are handmade, even the Christmas Fairy. I love working with 100% Wool Felt and make things every year. This year as a non tree dec I made a Reindeer and Sleigh with Santa, last year I made my son a Christmas Stocking and the year before a felt wreath. I get all my patterns from Etsy.

I have loads!
Gemstone angels for each month
7 Santa Claus figurines
9-10 Woodland creek figurines
Carved wooden village
3 nativity sets
3 Xmas snow globes
Christmas arch lights
Long garland that goes across the curtain rail
7 individual Christmas bow garlands for each picture frame
30 Lilliput lane snow cottages ( although I have these out all year!)
2 different sized Skiing Santa figures
7-8 smoking men figures
2 small nutcracker figurines
And a weinachts pyramid!

And probably a few more I can't remember!

Off to Germany soon to stock up on a few more😊

Some lovely ideas here! I’m definitely going to get gathering holly and ivy in a few weeks’ time. I’m not particularly crafty but I have seen some lovely handmade decorations using proper string and cinnamon sticks which I think even I could manage!

Not in my house, obviously but some locals knit and decorate our letter boxes.
They do it at Easter and other celebrations too.

And no!
No one ever steals them

That’s brilliant - it’s the Jean Greenhowe knitted Nativity - I’ve made several of those, for Gdcs and for their school 🎄raffles. Would love to make a postbox topper like that, but the bases are usually crochet - I can’t crochet - or else knitted on 4 needles, and I’m rubbish at that!

Those are absolutely gorgeous, how clever are you!

I've made felt decorations myself but yours are another level entirely

@18monthapprehension I've been eyeing these up for a wreath also

I have some glorious jewel coloured bauble garlands that I made, I love them and tie them in big swags on the stairs. I just today ordered some thicker wire so this year I intend to strip them all and redo them as last year they looked a little straggly

I have a little nativity with straw on the roof. It was £2 in a shop when my dd was little and we had no money and I bought it, only to find that it was reduced because it has no baby Jesus. So 21 years later we still have the little Sylvanian baby bunny in there as the lord himself. I'm not religious but I like my little stable and always tell my kids the nativity story but also then story of how we got it and how far we have come.

This is lovely ❤️🎄

Oops, I forgot the African style nativity set, 3 Xmas gnomes, a reindeer and tree set, 3 Xmas candles and 2 wreaths,

All up now!

I forage and bring as much greenery in as possible. I have paper white narcissi growing in large pots with twigs for support. Amaryllis is always on the go. Door wreaths are easy to make and lots of instructions online. I've somehow managed to get mistletoe growing on a little apple tree, took 4 yrs. So hopefully will have that in the house too if it berries. I've got (too many) birds and robins with that I clip onto curly hazel, or whatever I have and also hog weed thing in a large jug painted white with glitter on. Oh and lots of allium seed heads sprayed with silver glitter. I'm now wondering if I have too much! Can't control myself!

A black clay crib set made in Bangladesh.
And a large aluminium reindeer from Sainsbury's.

These all sound lovely, any pics? 👀
