Tree decorations that don't dangle

I started a thread last year and promptly forgot to save any recommendations from it, so sorry if anyone feels like they've answered this before!

We have a cat...a cat who thinks we're such lovely servants that we decorate a tree for her every year and she can take her pick of baubles to bat around the house at 2am or maybe try to eat the string, if she really wants to keep us on our toes.

So hanging baubles are out. We have a few wired apples, robins, and acorns that we can tie onto the branches but can't really seem to find much else. Clip-on decs would probably also work. Has anyone seen anything that might fit the bill?

Our local garden centre belongs to Blue Diamond which I think is a pretty large chain. They seem to have lots of clip-on decorations. I've got a few but mine are mostly birds which might give your cat the wrong idea 😸

B+M had some nice clip on ones last year - I got hedgehogs and robins I think

My tree topper kept falling off last year so I brought a felt decoration, cut the string off and glued a tiny hair clip to the back of it. Could you do similar?

Remove the strings from baubles and use clear plastic hair bands to attach them tightly to the branches

We have five cats, they grow out of it mostly. Otherwise don’t buy anything glass.. and enjoy the chaos.

I'd have two strategies for this - one is to have non-breakable dangly ornaments on the lower branches so it doesn't matter if she plays with them. Two, if possible I would keep her out of the tree's room overnight?

She might grow out of it in time, ours doesn't do any more than bat at the odd thing any more. If she did still, I'd probably anoint any more desirable item with something harmless that she dislikes, like citrus. Distract her with something with catnip in if she's paying too much attention (if she likes catnip)?

Hopefully it was an issue last year but it won't be this year, fingers crossed.

Pipecleaners on your existing decs?

We leave a couple of decoy baubles on the floor as cat toys, with loose bits removed of course. It seems to cut down the interest in the hanging ones a lot.

I have 3 cats and a large collection of pretty glass baubles (Gisela Graham and similar)... I prevent the baubles getting smashed off the tree by securely wiring the string on with fine green florist wire. It looks completely normal, but the baubles are secure and I've had a 100% success rate since I started doing this a couple of years ago. It is a little time consuming, but I feel it's worth it.

@Poppins2016 great idea

Just pull the silver foil bit off where the string attaches and push the hole onto the end of the Christmas tree branch. They fit quite tightly so it would take her a bit of time to knock one off. Only really works with plain coloured baubles or ones that are decorated all over
