Hello All,

I have a now 8 month old daughter, she’s our first child and everybody keeps asking me what they should get her for Christmas and I’m really not sure myself! I have no idea what she’s going to like 2 days from now she changes so quickly! She’s got bags of toys suitable for her age up to around 1 year so I was going to put together a wish list of things that would she would enjoy or useful things for the next stage but drawing a blank?

So I’m wondering do you have any suggestions? What toys were your little one’s favourites at that age? What are your must haves and things you can’t live without for that stage? For a range of budgets, say anything from £5 up to £100 and she really loves music and animals.

Thanks so much!

Stacking cups! Ours have been a favourite for a couple years now- the get played with differently as they grow. (In the play kitchen, hiding things etc)
a baby walker (the wooden one with blocks like a trolley that you push) the blocks can still be played with u till ready to push (again ours is still played with and also used as a shopping trolley/ push chair in role play).
both those items we had from around 6 months and now at 2.5 years still getting used a lot.

Definitely stacking cups, my nearly 3 year old still loves them. A trike? Outdoor toys like a seesaw? We have these plastic small cars they push a handle on the top and they race off (no idea what they are called as they came from a charity shop!) In the next year they will probably start liking blocks- duplo or silicone equivalent. A few jigsaw puzzles might be nice- the wooden ones where you put the shapes in the hole rather than click together ones.

2-3 piece jigsaws
flap books
stacking cups
tomy hide and squeak eggs
mega bloks
Little ride on / scooter
Shape sorter
happyland sets are good and loads to choose from
clothes in size 1-2
’experiences’ (be it swimming lessons or a day trip somewhere)

Mine also likes her scuttle bug ride on a lot. It's small and light enough to be used inside on tile/wood floor so she gets so much more use from it than relying on us taking it with us to the park etc.
