Work Secret Santa Idea

CrinksSuEmma · 14/11/2024 00:39

We got our secret Santa assignment at work today and I’m feeling a little lost. The budget is £15-£20, the person I have is a young girl, she just started with us in September, she’s 22.
We usually do something funny at work but I don’t really know her to know what would be well received. Everything I know about her is either from her LinkedIn or very surface level (plays piano, studied Law & French).
Any ideas for something fun?

I think I'd opt for a coffee shop gift card (for one near the office), and find a 'fun' way to gift it. I've hidden one in a big jar of sweets in the past, I've seen someone gift one inside of a snowglobe, inside a popping card, etc.

Perfume
scarf
gloves
chocolates
jewellery

Wow - Thats alot for a work secret santa

My DD (19) received a poster of 100 movies to watch Bucket List from her work colleagues which went down very well. There's a bit to scratch off and reveal a picture underneath when you've watched it. We're enjoying working through it together. So fun but not silly or a waste of money like a lot of 'fun' xmas gifts can be. No idea how much it was but I imagine well within budget and could be topped up with toiletries, nail polish, earrings chocolates etc.

Just looked on Amazon - same movie poster is £12.94

I agree with the gift card thing, although it doesn’t have to be coffee shop. What about a cinema gift card/takeout? Or even a lesser value gift card (£10-£15) along with a box of chocolates/nice selection box.

Zara perfume. They are between £12-25 depending on size, they are really popular with young women according to my daughter and her friends.

The film poster is a great idea. Do you see her arrive at work? If you do, see what colour coat she wears and maybe get a scarf/snood that works well with it. Or how about some recycled cashmere fingerless gloves from Turtle Doves:

Some are reduced to £20, they're lovely and the recycling aspect is an added positive.

Starbucks gift card in a travel mug. Or in a glass Xmas mug (£3 in Asda and quite cute!)

mortlurf · 14/11/2024 07:56

I wouldn't give perfume or jewellery. These are very personal to the person and everyone's tastes are very very different.

A lovely candle
Milton Brown gift set
Summer Fridays Lipbalm set
Some nice chocolates/hot chocolate
Cosy socks
A journal/2025 planner

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 14/11/2024 08:01

Nice mug filled with chocolates.

I have an early 20s daughter and I think she would enjoy the movie poster mentioned above.

Completelyjo · 14/11/2024 08:08

Totally disagree with the poster comments. I certainly wouldn’t have wanted a rando at work to pick a large poster for me, like what are you supposed to do with that?
The most fail safe things are more generic, small and can be enjoyed by most people.
Little Christmas chocolates, and a coffee gift card is a good suggestion.
Maybe a clear lip oil or something similar and non statement from a premium brand.

Secret Santa “assignment”?
That would be a no from me. Bloody cheek.

hattie43 · 14/11/2024 08:16

A gift card and a box of maltesers . £15 is too much to waste on a shit joke present or something she may not want .

I think she means she was assigned her secret Santa? Surely that's normal? How else would it work? 🤷🏻‍♀️

I got a similar person for mine. I got her a Clinique black honey gift set. The lip stuff plus mascara for £18.50. I'd never heard of it but all the young ones are raving about it (tik tok). It's a lip colouring thing that brings out the natural pigment I. Your lips or something! I have no idea but apparently a top present for that age group!

Cindersroo · 15/11/2024 00:44

Do you ever see her drinking hot drinks/eating sweet snacks? Maybe you can get her a mug & hot choc sets with some nice biscuits . I saw a lovely baileys one for £6 in Sainsburys - came with a tiny baileys bottle, cocoa powder and marshmallows.

A lot of young women like lip gloss and candles so either may go down well too.

I’d say no to the poster! Not everyone is into posters and it would be hard to pick one you know she liked enough to decorate her room/apartment with.

Or does she wear earrings or scarves ? If so study the style and perhaps get something similar.

If you happen to see her reading books on her break, maybe get her a bookstore voucher?
