Keen to hear other people’s plans on their Xmas day. I’m in a fairly newly blended family, four kids between us, ages 9-15. Extended family have invited us for a dinner, however this is around an hour drive away, so we are deliberating.

We would usually wake up, early! do presents and stockings etc, have a nice breakfast…
maybe a dog walk late morning,

Just curious as to what are some of your family traditions, we also enjoy a bit of the evening tv including Gavin and Stacey!

I stay at home on Christmas Day. I refuse to travel. Don't mind travelling on Boxing day and any other day between Boxing Day and New Year but the actual day itself is just for us.

If I did travel though I think an hour + each way is too much. It's a long trip, it's a big chunk out of the day. You can't drink (or one of you can and the other gets resentful because they can't join in) and when you get home you're hungry again and having to think of making food when you just want to chillax and/or sleep. Not for me.

We always travelled round family - up early, kids open presents, dressed and out to my mum and brother for breakfast. Home for lunch, then high tea with the in-laws. It made for an awful trashy day. I always felt awful taking the kids away from their toys, always rushed lunch and only one of us could drink but the kids loved it.

this year - kids are 19 and 15 and I’ve told everyone I’m staying home. I’ll welcome guests if they want to come to me otherwise I’ll see them over the next couple of days - I’m not leaving the house! I can’t wait, i plan lots of lovely food and wine! I just hope I can stand my ground and stick to it 🫣

We are not travelling anywhere. We live overseas with a 4yo. I will fly home the week before and have a festive week with family - Christmas lunch etc.
On Christmas Day we all open our stockings on Christmas morning. Then have dinner and afterwards open under the tree presents. Then out for a short walk to the park. Home and TV, Christmas films.
We used to travel back for Christmas and spend the 2 weeks driving around trying to see everyone but it was so stressful and we were exhausted by the time we got back home.

I don't travel on Christmas Day. People are welcome to visit but I'm not going anywhere (they rarely do anyway).

I wouldn't be going if I were you, just stay at home and have a lovely day together.
