Was talking to someone about snow at Christmas earlier, I said how I wish my kids could experience it at least once. Being in the south east it mostly rains even when the uk is covered in snow. One of my favourite Christmas memories was the one and only time it snowed in london at Christmas, was 1994/95 I believe ( I was either 6/7) , we lived on an estate. My dad had grown up on this estate so we as a family were very well known, I remember waking up on Christmas morning, excited to see what Santa had left. I remember running through the hall and straight to my presents which were sat on the sofa right by the window, I remember thinking why is it so white, so i looked up and it was snowing heavy. I immediately dropped what was in my hand and begged my dad to take us out in the snow, presents forgotten. We were outside maybe 2 hours, all the neighbourhood kids started coming out just after us, and where usually on Christmas it was a ghost town it was full of kids, playing, snow ball fights, snowmen. When we came back in we had to visit my grandparents who lives across the estate, then took the presents and opened them at my other nans house. It’s the one and only time we’ve not opened our presents straight in the morning, we didn’t even give it a thought. It’s one memory that stands out for me when I think of Christmas, we’ve never had another white Christmas like we did that day.
