I will be doing a Christmas Eve buffet for 10 people.
However, I’ve been at other events with these guests in the past and heard them talk about ‘all the beige food ‘ (they are nice people honestly ! just appreciate interesting food )
hit me with your best ideas !!!! ( that don’t break the bank or involve me fiddling with lots of tiny canapés .
Smoked salmon blinis
charcuterie
tiny stuffed peppers
crustless quiche

my imagination is a bit lacking

We’re having extended family members over before Christmas and this is what I’m doing:

big pulled pork
apple sauce
bao buns
two different houmous
cous cous
red cabbage
potato salad
coleslaw
tzatziki
salad

cheeseboard

loads of small iced cakes

Only three of us but we are having a seafood platter , pickles and cheeses , fresh baked bread and roast gammon

Also bear in mind your eating arrangements - if you don't have space for people to sit, you need stuff that can be eaten with one hand. No point having an amazing cheeseboard, crackers and chutneys if no-one has anywhere to balance their plate whilst they assemble cheese, crackers and chutney.

We always have a giant seafood platter, delicious and so easy (all you have to do is shuck the oysters and arrange everything on some ice). It’s all about the champagne, cocktails and light food for us. Christmas dinner is huge and heavy, the last thing I’d want is jacket potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, pigs in blankets, curry etc.

As a side dish I like making "Christmas" cous cous which is really easy to prep in advance. Just the flavoured packets of cous cous soaked in hot water alongside dried cranberries to rehyrdate them a bit. Add in cubes of feta, lots of finely chopped fresh herbs, roasted chickpeas and toasted flaked almonds.

That alongside shredded roast lamb, flatbreads, hummus, falafel and roasted vegetables would be lovely.

I'm assuming the majority of guests will be having a Christmas dinner the following day so I would keep it quite light:
Side of salmon
Oven baked vegetable paella for example
A chopped salad
I'd also make a bowl of prawn cocktail if it was for people I was feeding the next day as we don't have a starter. Also lot of people seem to have prawn cocktail on Christmas Day.

Cheeseboard is essential I think if you know most people like cheese, some good suggestions already for making it a 'naice' board

You could also do a platter of sweet goodies (Stollen, mince pies, Lebkuchen, Stroopwaffeln, chocolate mousse served in shot glasses etc) , add bowls of clementines to add colour as that can be a bit 'beige'

It wouldn't be luxe or have finesse, but I'd love a buffet of what I'd fetch at home on BD. Bubble & Squeak. glazed carrots, roast onions, stuffing and then all the stuff others eat like meat and some soft rolls to stuff it in . Warm mince pies and cream. Strong coffees with a bottle of something to add.

If you want canapes for their arrival, buy frozen from Waitrose or elsewhere.

I would literally hate every item on this buffet

And I would love everything except the meat! I do like the idea of a theme where everything belongs culturally on the same table.
